"4724, how does the west end check out?"
―A B1-series battle droid requests a report from 4724[2]

4724 was the designation of a droid who served in the Separatist Droid Army during the Clone Wars between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and Galactic Republic. In 21 BBY, the droid was deployed to the world of Maridun as part of the detachment under the command of General Lok Durd, who had arrived to test the defoliator weapon against the planet's Lurmen colonists.

Following his initial test to prove it would not harm mechanical beings, Durd left with most of his force toward the Lurmen village, leaving 4724 behind as part of the small droid compliment tasked with keeping their outpost secure. Unknown to the droids, three Jedi and two clone troopers from the Republic Military were also on Maridun and raided the base in the night. 4724 was destroyed with the rest of the compliment left behind at the outpost.

Biography[]

"First we'll take out the droids' communication station."
―General Anakin Skywalker declares that the base where 4724 is stationed needs to be taken out[2]

4724 was a droid who was active in the Droid Army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars waged between the Confederacy and the Galactic Republic. 4724 was part of the military detachment that served under a Neimoidian general[2] and weapons designer[3] named Lok Durd.[2] In 21 BBY,[1] 4724 and many other droids under Durd's command traveled to the planet Maridun[2] in the Outer Rim[4] to test the defoliator, an organic-destroying weapon[2] Durd had conceived of.[3] 4724 was stationed at the outpost the general's forces established as a communications station.[2]

After Durd's initial test of the weapon, which proved the defoliator would not harm battle droids, the general led most of his troops away to test the defoliator on a village of Lurmen colonists. 4724 was left behind at the base as part of its small security compliment to ensure Durd was not greeted with any issues when he returned. 4724 was tasked with keeping the base's west end secure. Unknown to the Separatists, a group of Republic combatants—Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Aayla Secura, Jedi Commander Ahsoka Tano, Clone Commander Bly, and Clone Captain Rex—were marooned on Maridun[2] after their Consular-class cruiser sustained damage during the Battle of Quell and crashed.[5]

B1-in-command-center

A B1 battle droid (pictured) asked for an update from 4724 on the security of the west end.

After night had fallen, while 4724 was busy at the outpost's west end, the Jedi and clone troopers moved to take out the outpost and steal a Sheathipede-class transport shuttle, so as to reach the village before the incoming attack. As the Jedi and clones quietly took out the droid guards, a B1 battle droid stationed within the outpost's command center ordered 4724 to provide him with an update on the west end's security; instead of receiving an answer, the B1 unit was then cut down by Skywalker's lightsaber.[2] 4724 and every other droid in the base was taken out,[1] allowing the Republic combatants to steal the shuttle and return to the Lurmen. There, the Republic triumphed in battle over Durd, as the Jedi and clones took out his battle droids and destroyed the defoliator.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

4724 was mentioned within the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "Defenders of Peace,"[2] which aired as the fourteenth episode of the show's first season on January 23, 2009.[6]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Defenders of Peace" to 21 BBY. Therefore, 4724's role in the Separatist outpost on Maridun can also be dated to 21 BBY, and StarWars "Defenders of Peace" Episode Gallery on StarWars.com (backup link) (Slide 20) establishes that every droid in the outpost was destroyed. Therefore, 4724 must have been destroyed, and the droid's death can be dated to 21 BBY.
