Smile (スマイル Sumairu?) is the Quirk used by Shinjiro Hohoemi.[1]
Description[]
This Quirk allows the user to force other people to laugh uncontrollably for two hours. The user activates this Quirk by showing their teeth to the victim, it also works if the user's teeth are seen in a mirror or on video, as long as they are seen in real time.
This state of uncontrollable laughter incapacitates people, as they are barely able to move, let alone fight, as long as they are laughing. In some cases, the uncontrollable laughter can even cause the victim to lose control of their Quirk.
This Quirk can also affect machines, such as robots, though rather than making them laugh, it will simply cause them to short circuit and break, as it did with Power Loader and Mei Hatsume's capture robot.
Weaknesses[]
This Quirk has no effect if the target's vision is obscured, meaning that someone can face the user if they don't have to rely on their eyesight. By extension, this Quirk isn't effective at a far enough distance.
Usage[]
Shinjiro used his Quirk to deter anyone who attempted to arrest him for his crimes of vandalism, namely the Police Force and Pro Heroes. He also carried a throwable holographic projector under his hat that would show his face, allowing him to make up for his Quirk's far distance limit. Smile's powerful effects and lengthy duration made it an effective deterrent, allowing Shinjiro to graffiti unimpeded and make an escape, to the point where the police requested the Endeavor Agency to help arrest him, and even they struggled with apprehending him.
Smile is regarded as a powerful Quirk by Izuku Midoriya, who believed that Shinjiro could have been a great hero with it.
