SPT 21 was the registry number of a Federation Class C prison shuttle operated by Starfleet in 2256.

That year, SPT 21 transported four prisoners, including Michael Burnham, from a prison to Tellun. En route, the shuttle encountered Species GS54, which drained its power systems. The shuttle's pilot was disconnected from the craft and flew off into space while trying to combat the infestation, but SPT 21 was rescued by the USS Discovery. After three days of repair, the shuttle left the Discovery carrying all of the prisoners except Burnham. (DIS: "Context Is for Kings")

Given the bizarre nature of the events leading up to the encounter with GS54 and later revelations about Discovery Captain Gabriel Lorca, the "accident" may have been staged by Lorca.

SPT might stand for Starfleet Prisoner Transport. This was supported partly by markings on the nacelles which identified the shuttle as a "prisoner transport".

In "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2", Number One's panel identifies Po's stolen shuttle (DSC 12) as SPT 21, an apparent graphic error.
