DSC 01 was the registry number for a 23rd century Federation Class C shuttlecraft attached to the USS Discovery in 2256.
The shuttle was in the Discovery's shuttlebay when Starfleet prison shuttle SPT 21 arrived.
Not long after, this shuttle, piloted by R.A. Bryce, transported a boarding party from the Discovery to its sister ship, the USS Glenn. (DIS: "Context Is for Kings")
Over three weeks later, this shuttle ferried Captain Gabriel Lorca to a debriefing with Starfleet Command. On its return to the Discovery, the shuttle was ambushed by a Klingon prison vessel. After being tractored into the vessel, a boarding party entered the shuttle. As Lorca was being abducted, the shuttle pilot was killed. The shuttle's distress beacon transmitted a signal which was picked up by Starfleet. By the time they responded, the prison vessel's warp trail had dissipated. (DIS: "Choose Your Pain")
A navigation tech was ordered to report to the shuttle bay to assist with the maintenance of this shuttle. (DIS: "The Wolf Inside")
The call sign for this shuttle was pronounced as "Disco 1" (appearing as "Distal 1" in the CBS closed captions.)
The shuttle is not shown to be retrieved from L'Rell's battle cruiser in "Choose Your Pain," when Lorca and Tyler escape by stolen Klingon raider; it's possible the DSC 01 in "The Wolf Inside" is a new shuttle.
