Data pre-population or dynamic replacement options
The Dynamic Replacement option allows you to replace arbitrary text within the questions/answers with dynamic data. You can use the variables/data stored in the Custom Variables or the External Reference Variable for Data Replacement/Pre-population.
How to replace text within the Questions/Answer options? What are the variables and codes available?
You can use the following variable tags. You can use the tags anwywhere on the survey or emails and the data will be populated.
- ${email} Will be replaced with the respondents email address. Respondent tracking link required for this functionality.
- ${custom1} Will be replaced with the data stored in the Custom Variable 1
- ${custom2} Will be replaced with the data stored in the Custom Variable 2
- ${custom3} Will be replaced with the data stored in the Custom Variable 3
- ${custom4} Will be replaced with the data stored in the Custom Variable 4
- ${custom5} Will be replaced with the data stored in the Custom Variable 5
- ...
- ...
- ...
- And so on till Custom Variable 255
- ${custom255} Will be replaced with the data stored in the Custom Variable 255
If you have renamed the custom variables, use the format $ {code entered for variable} to refer to the variable. Remember to use the Code, and NOT the Display Name when calling out the custom variable in question or answer text.
How to pre-populate Open Ended Text type questions?
- Step 1: Save a value into a custom variable via email list or within the survey.
- Step 2: Add an open ended text box and go to Settings » Data Pre population
- Step 3: Select a variable from the drop down.
