John Ashbery
Died on September 3, 2017 at age 90
With teasing, delicate, soulful lines, Mr. Ashbery was one of the most influential figures of late-20th and early-21st-century American literature. In 1976 he became the only writer to win the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award in the same year, for his collection “Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror.”
