In June, Columbia Sportswear Company held our third annual Hackathon, "Dream it, Create it, Win it"! The Hackathon is an event where teams collaborate to solve a problem and compete for prizes. Teams can compete with projects rooted in any function, such as technology, design, marketing, and more. It’s a fun social event as well as a friendly battle against the clock (and the competition), and teams from all areas of the business are welcome to compete or participate as a spectator. This year, we had the highest number of participants with 119 people competing! The teams showcased their projects in a preliminary round of judging, using various levels of development including fully functional code, partially functional code, and even design mockups to convey their ideas. The judges watched these teams present live demos and, after a tough deliberation, announced the winners. CSC’s CAPE (Coalition of Asian & Pacific Islander Employees) employee network held a volunteer event at Immigrant Refugee Community Organization’s (or IRCO) New Beginnings Market. Columbia Sportswear & Mountain Hardwear donated clothing and jackets and a group of 15 employees helped unpack and organize their warehouse. This successful volunteer event helped prepare for the needs of immigrants and refugees in our community. Our Pride Employee Resource Network did an amazing job kickstarting Pride Month with a fun-filled evening at our Portland flagship store! This May, we celebrated our second Prosci 3-Day Change Management Practitioner Certification graduation of the year! A class of 17 employees across business groups, brands, and regions, dedicated the time to expand their skills to expertly design, lead, and manage any change. May is Asian Pacific Islander Month and here at Columbia Sportswear, our Coalition of Asian and Pacific Islander Employee Network hosted varied events that made the month all the more special. From Tai Chi to Calligraphy and Origami, thank you to those who organized and participated in these moments of shared culture. On Memorial Day, our Veterans & Allies Employee Network, BRAVO (Bringing Representation and Valor to the Outdoors), participated in Do Good Multnomah’s Annual Ruck March, a fundraiser for Veteran’s mental health. Do Good is a non-profit that supports Veterans experiencing mental health challenges, homelessness, and more. BRAVO and friends participated in a 4, 6, or 12-mile ruck march, some weighing their packs with personal hygiene items to donate after the event. BRAVO also hosted a virtual 5-way/5k for retail and remote employees (along with their family, and friends) to participate in. The event encouraged participants of all fitness and mobility levels to complete a 5k in recognition of Memorial Day. In May, we commemorated 30 years at our North Portland, Oregon distribution center. For two hours, we suspended operations so that everyone could join in the festivities. We hosted a luncheon with outside catering, a local marching band called The Beat Goes On, and speeches from our CEO, Tim Boyle, and other special guests.
