Yaun was a Human senator who represented Bureaucratosis in the Senate of the Galactic Republic on the planet Coruscant during the Clone Wars. At one particular meeting, Yaun addressed the Senate but was interrupted by the orphan-in-disguise Han Solo, inciting an altercation between Yaun's people and the Wookiee delegates in the Senate Chamber.

After the Republic was reorganized as the Galactic Empire, Yaun continued to represent Bureaucratosis in the Imperial Senate. Around 0 ABY, Emperor Palpatine kicked Yaun out of the Senate Building along with the other senators. When he found that the lone representative had remained there, he evicted the senator from the chamber by zapping them with Force lightning.

Biography[]

By the Clone Wars,^[1] a period of conflict lasting from 22 BBY to 19 BBY,^[3] Yaun came to serve as a member of the Galactic Republic's Senate, representing Bureaucratosis. Sometime during Yaun's term, a group of Jedi younglings partook in a field trip administered by the protocol droid C-3PO and his counterpart, the astromech R2-D2, attending a gathering of the Senate in the Senate Building on^[1] the planet^[3] Coruscant. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine brought the meeting to order and authorized Yaun to address those assembled. Floating in their Senate pod, Yaun brought themselves before the other senators and spoke.^[1]

One of the younglings, "Ian"—in truth, a young^[1] Corellian^[3] orphan named Han Solo—dislodged the Jedi pod from its dock in an attempt to avoid detection by Coruscant security forces, causing it to crash directly into the pod occupied by Yaun and their aides, which further collided with the pod containing several Wookiee delegates. In an act of retaliation, the Wookiees rammed Yaun's pod with their own, and Yaun did the same in return. C-3PO attempted to join the conflict but was thrown from his pod and onto the Supreme Chancellor's control board, releasing all the pods from their docks and causing further chaos. Shortly thereafter, Yaun was present at a ceremony celebrating the younglings and their heroics held on the steps of Coruscant's Jedi Temple. The senator applauded the young Jedi and then waved to the crowd while enjoying the fireworks.^[1]

Following the Republic's transformation into the Galactic Empire,^[3] Yaun represented Bureaucratosis in the Imperial Senate.^[2] Around 0 ABY,^[4] the now–Galactic Emperor Palpatine brought his apprentice, Darth Vader, to the Senate Chamber to review old Jedi holocrons in search of rebellious worlds to put down. When Vader inquired about the lack of senators, Palpatine stated that he had "kicked 'em all out,"^[2] having dissolved the Senate,^[3] only to be proven wrong by Yaun whistling absent-mindedly from their Senate pod. An irritated Palpatine then reiterated to Yaun to "vamoose." The senator blah-ed a startled response, causing Palpatine to blast them with Force lightning, evicting them from the chamber as Yaun screamed.^[2]

Personality and traits[]

Yaun was a Human with light skin. They were wrinkled, bald, and possessed white facial hair. The senator spoke mostly in "blah"s,^[1] although they were capable of other speech, responding "yes" to Palpatine when addressed.^[2] C-3PO described Yaun's verbose speaking style as "glorious."^[1]

Yaun once retaliated against a group of Wookiee delegates when they believed that the Wookiees had intentionally rammed their Senate pod.^[1] They did not comply with Palpatine's mandate ejecting the senators from the Senate Chamber and, while loitering there, read a book.^[2]

Equipment[]

Yaun wore white robes, a blue undershirt, and a white cape, an outfit shared by their aides. As a senator, Yaun occupied a repulsorpod contained in the Senate Chamber.^[1] By the Imperial era, Yaun possessed a blue book.^[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Yaun first appeared in LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace, an animated television special^[1] that premiered on July 22, 2011.^[5] The end credits did not specify who voiced Yaun, while the spelling of Yaun's name was not clarified until provided by the subtitles of the special's Blu-ray and DVD release^[1] on September 16 later that year.^[6] The character returned in "Raid on Coruscant,"^[2] an episode of LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles released September 7, 2014,^[7] voiced by Michael Daingerfield.^[2] Daingerfield was not among those listed in the credits of the original special.^[1]
