The Viceroy of the Trade Federation was the senior executive position of the Trade Federation conglomerate. By the time of the megacorporation's invasion of the planet Naboo^[3] in 32 BBY,^[2] the Sith Lord Darth Sidious had manipulated Nute Gunray's rise to the position. Gunray served as Viceroy of the Trade Federation during the invasion^[5] and, despite facing several trials in the Supreme Court,^[4] kept the title during the subsequent Clone Wars. The Viceroy was killed on Mustafar^[6] in 19 BBY by Sidious' new apprentice, Darth Vader.^[2]

The Viceroy of the Trade Federation title first appeared through Nute Gunray in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, the first installment of the Star Wars prequel trilogy.^[3]
