A dark sculpture that could ground Force lightning was owned by Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious during his tenure as Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine of the Galactic Republic. Kept in the Chancellor's office on the planet Coruscant, Sidious used the sculpture to contain his lightning and prevent damage to the office whenever he lashed out destructively in private.

History[]

By 22 BBY,^[2] Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious—publicly Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine of the Galactic Republic—owned the sculpture. He kept it in his office^[1] in the Senate Office Building^[3] on the Republic's capital planet, Coruscant. Whenever Sidious entered a destructive mood in private and lashed out with Force lightning, the sculpture grounded the dark side energies and prevented damage to his office.^[1]

Early during the Clone Wars between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, which Sidious had masterminded, he lashed out at the sculpture upon discovering that there was a faction within the Trade Federation, a corporation which Sidious influenced, which hoped to restore the Neimoidian-led organization's reputation by ousting its current leader, Viceroy Nute Gunray, who was a pawn of Sidious. Letting the sculpture reflect his stored hate and anger back at him, Sidious reminded himself of his endurance before contacting his apprentice, Dooku, to enact plans to deal with the rogue faction.^[1]

The dark sculpture appeared in^[1] the 2022 young-adult novel Queen's Hope, written by E. K. Johnston,^[4] the final installment in a trilogy focusing on Queen and Senator Padmé Amidala.^[5]
