As a gift, the merchant gave an Imperial spy a pilgrim's bead necklace.

A merchant operated on[1] the moon[2] Jedha during the reign of the Galactic Empire. He ran a stall at a makeshift nomadic market. One of the most prominent such venues on Jedha, the market saw trade in contraband goods, and it lay at a hidden location in the desert outside of Jedha City. The merchant traded rare goods to Imperial stormtroopers stationed on Jedha.[1]

At one point by 1 BBY,[3] the merchant made eye contact with an Imperial spy who was visiting the market in order to acquire goods to trade to the profiteer Jalice Andit. The trader motioned the spy, who was carrying a commercial license for operating in Jedha's markets, to come over to his stall. There, the merchant noted that both of them were more or less directly working for the Empire, after which the trader gave the agent a pilgrim's bead necklace, worth twenty credits, as a gift. After the encounter, the spy, who also visited other markets on Jedha, ultimately went to meet Andit in the Deserted Canyon.[1]
