"Is it dead?"
"No, but soon he'll wish I'd killed him planetside."
―Rox and Marda Ro, discussing the Jedi after Ro brought him to the Gaze Electric[2]

A human Jedi was a Force-sensitive member of the Jedi Order who was present at an eclectic marketplace on an astronomical object when he was attacked by Marda Ro, the founder of the pirate organization who would eventually become the Nihil, around 379 BBY. Leaving him alive, she took the human to her ship, Gaze Electric. Onboard the Gaze, Marda's subordinates dragged the Jedi to the Great Leveler, a creature that fed on the Living Force. The Leveler killed the Jedi, turning him into a lifeless husk. Ro later mentioned the Jedi in a message she recorded for her descendants, which her great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to by 252 BBY.

Biography[]

"Jedi."
"What can I do for you?"
"Jedi, do you have a Padawan?"
"No."
―Marda Ro and the Jedi[2]

Around 379 BBY,[1] the Force-sensitive human Jedi was present at an eclectic marketplace on an astronomical object and was approached by[2] the founder of the group of marauders who would eventually become the Nihil[4]Marda Ro—who inquired whether he had a Padawan. Upon answering that he did not, the Jedi was assaulted by Ro, who tore his flesh with[2] her[5] claws. Afterward, Ro was covered in the Jedi's blood.[2]

Leaving the Jedi injured but not dead, she returned to her ship, the Gaze Electric, in a shuttle with him in its hold. The Jedi was dragged by Ro's subordinates Milan Stor and Rox to the Great Leveler, a being that preyed on Force-sensitives and consumed the Living Force. The Jedi woke up and began screaming when the Leveler reached out to him. Despite attempts to get away from it, he slipped in his blood, and the Leveler killed him. As a result, the Jedi was turned into a dead husk that resembled stone. Ro, Stor, and Rox observed his death; however, Stor and Rox eventually looked away and did not watch the full process.[2]

Ro felt pride at being covered in his blood, and when she was left alone, she smeared it on the throne hall's walls on the Gaze to paint a massive red sun. The events of the Jedi's capture and death, as well what happened afterward were later documented by Ro when she included them in a message she recorded for her descendants.[2] By 252 BBY,[6] during his youth, Ro's great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to her journal, including the message where the Jedi was mentioned.[5]

Personality and traits[]

"He was human, with a sunburn down his white nose and a thing yellow beard. Taller than me, broader. His eyes were the same brown of his cloak. I think he probably had a nice smile."
―Marda Ro's journal[2]

The Jedi had white skin, brown eyes, and a blonde beard.[2] He was taller than Marda Ro, who measured 1.68 meters (5 ft 6 in),[3] and had flesh that Ro saw as soft.[2]

Equipment[]

"His robes layered brown-gold-white like fresh-turned fields and sunlight."
―Marda Ro, in her journal[2]

As a member of the Jedi Order, the individual wore brown-gold-white robes. He also possessed a lightsaber, which was taken by Ro after his death and hidden in a compartment in her throne.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

The Jedi appeared in a flashback in the short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," written by Tessa Gratton and published in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.[2]

Notes and references[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 "A Closed Fist Has No Claws" establishes that the section depicting the Jedi's death aboard the Gaze Electric takes place when Marda Ro is roughly eighteen years old. The High Republic: Path of Deceit establishes both that members of the Path of the Open Hand receive full membership at the age of fifteen and that Ro had recently become a full member, meaning that she is around fifteen years old. The events of Path of Deceit take place in 382 BBY per Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia; therefore, the section of "A Closed Fist Has No Claws" depicting the Jedi's death must take place around 379 BBY.
