Tommet Sozach was a Ginmid who led an army of mercenaries to make a living. When predictions of prolonged peace in the galaxy proved true, Sozach left the army to operate on his own and began working as a trick shooter until a fatal accident during a demonstration resulted in him being issued a death sentence.

On the run, Sozach settled on the planet Kijimi as a self-defense instructor. In 35 ABY, he spent time in the bar of the Spice Runners' Den in Kijimi City shortly before the Final Order destroyed Kijimi.

Biography[]

Tommet Sozach was a Ginmid who made a living working as the leader of a mercenary army made up exclusively of members of his own species. After he had commanded the army for some time, the mercenary group broke up when the prospect of a lasting peace in the galaxy arose,[1] with Sozach choosing to break out on his own when the predictions of prolonged peace proved accurate.[3] Trying to make a living through other means,[1] Sozach succeeded as a crowd-pleasing trick shooter[3] in a marksmanship show that he put on until[1] a demonstration went wrong[3] and resulted in a fatal accident.[1]

Tommet Sozach and Companion

Tommet spent time with a human in the Spice Runners' Den.

The incident resulted in a death sentence for Sozach[3] and a price on his head as he went on the run. Settling on the planet Kijimi, he began working as a self-defense instructor. By the time of the war between the First Order and the Resistance, most of the soldiers who had previously served in Sozach's army had already retired.[1] During the First Order's occupation of Kijimi[4] in 35 ABY,[5] the defense instructor spent time in the bar of the Spice Runners' Den in Kijimi City and was stood with a human by the entrance when the Spice Runner Zorii Bliss led a group of Resistance agents into the room. Shortly after Sozach encountered the Resistance members,[4] the First Order evacuated its forces from Kijimi[3] prior to the world's destruction by the Final Order.[4]

Personality and traits[]

When war returned to the galaxy after the prolonged period of peace, Sozach sometimes had to fight pangs of remorse for giving up his mercenary force despite the fact that most of his best soldiers had likely retired. He had green skin.[3]

Equipment[]

Sozach wore a brown jacket made from cloned karabbac-pelt with a brown fur hat and a pair of orange goggles. His outfit also included a brown belt, brown pants, and brown boots. He carried a spice runner blaster rifle with a widened bore on the barrel.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

"I think the production name for this guy was The Russian, and I think Jake originally concepted him with a big fur hat. I always tried to present alternate options when possible, so the padded version was taking the John Mollo quilting to the extreme."

Tommet Sozach was created for the 2019 sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker,[4] and was identified simultaneously in the accompanying reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo,[3] and on a card in the 2019 Topps Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Series 1 trading card set by The Topps Company, Inc.[6]

The creature design for Sozach was done by Jake Lunt Davies,[7] and the concept art of Sozach titled "Wizard 14 Version 1A" was created for the film by costume concept artist Calum Alexander Watt.[8] Watt remembers the character's production name as "The Russian," with Lunt's original idea included the large fur hat, but in order to provide an alternate look, Watt created a second padded costume design based on the quilting designs of John Mollo.[2]
