Sparkflies were a type of bioluminescent fly that could be found on the Outer Rim planets Ab Dalis and E'ronoh. In 382 BBY, Jedi Knight Gella Nattai noticed incandescent sparkflies while in E'ronoh's royal palace. In 232 BBY, Garello Technologies' chief executive Larence Garello noticed a cloud-like haze in front of his company's ships as his employees fled Ab Dalis, comparing it to the flies' appearance.
Description[]
Sparkflies were a type of bioluminescent fly that could glow with a faint light,[1] appearing incandescent from a distance.[2] The flies could live in the swamps of the Outer Rim planet Ab Dalis[1] and on the dry, desert Outer Rim planet E'ronoh.[2]
History[]
While in the royal palace of E'ronoh's royal family[2] in 382 BBY,[3] Jedi Knight Gella Nattai noticed sparkflies floating in the world's breeze while meeting Jedi Master Creighton Sun near a reflective pool.[2]
In 232 BBY,[4] Garello Technologies' chief executive Larence Garello fled Ab Dalis with his company's employees to escape the aftermath of an Emergence—a piece of hyperspace debris from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter—that had impacted their world. While in their ships above the world's atmosphere, Garello and his colleagues noticed a thick cloud-like haze in space in front of them with several flickering lights, which he felt looked like sparkflies over an Ab Dalisian swamp. However, in reality, the haze consisted of Nihil marauder starships that attacked and ultimately killed the individuals leaving Ab Dalis.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
In the current Star Wars canon, sparkflies were mentioned in Light of the Jedi, a 2021 novel written by Charles Soule as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase I.[5] The flies made their first appearance in Convergence, a 2022 novel written by Zoraida Córdova as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic's Phase II.[2] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, sparkflies were flies native to the planet Dathomir. The flies were first introduced in Fate of the Jedi: Backlash, a 2010 novel written by Aaron Allston as the fourth installment of the Fate of the Jedi series.[6]
