- "What now, Doctor Jones? We continue looking for this 'monster'?"
"No. Let's leave him as part of the great unknown." - ―Short Round and Indiana Jones, discussing the "Sasquatch" Chewbacca
"Short Round," also known as "Shorty," was the Human companion of Doctor Indiana Jones. 126 years after the YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon crash-landed on the planet Earth, Short Round and Jones undertook an expedition to the starship's ruins in search of the "Sasquatch," which was in fact the Wookiee Chewbacca. They only found the corpse of the Falcon's pilot, Han Solo, which caused Jones to call off their search.
Biography[]
- "What is this place?"
"I don't know, I've never seen anything like it. Not even in Atlantis. But it's all somehow familiar. Stay close, Shorty." - ―Short Round and Indiana Jones, inside the Millennium Falcon
"Short Round" and "Shorty" were the nicknames of a Human who served as a companion of Doctor Indiana Jones on the planet Earth.[1] Between the Earth-years 1942 and 1943,[2] Short Round joined Jones and a guide on an expedition on behalf of a museum to a jungle to find the legendary "Sasquatch," in actuality the Wookiee Chewbacca. Short Round jumped over a small cliffside gap shortly before the trio arrived at the wreck of the YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon, which Chewbacca and his deceased co-pilot Han Solo had crashed in 126 years earlier. Jones climbed onto the starship first before lifting Short Round up on the vessel's ramp.[1]
Short Round enquired about the nature of their current location, to which Jones responded that he had no idea and had never seen anything like it before, even in the location Atlantis. He remarked that it seemed familiar as he discovered Solo's skeletal remains and told Short Round to stay close. Short Round asked if they would continue searching for the sasquatch, but Jones declined, stating they would leave the "monster" as part of the unknown.[1]
Personality and traits[]
Short Round was loyal to Indiana Jones and asked him questions about their expedition and their way forward. Short Round had black hair, brown eyes, and tan skin.[1]
Equipment[]
Short Round wore a red cap with a matching red jacket over a gray shirt with light blue pants.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Short Round was created for 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the second film of the Indiana Jones franchise, created by Star Wars creator George Lucas. Short Round was portrayed by Ke Huy Quan, credited at the time as Jonathan Ke Quan, and served as the sidekick of Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford, who also played Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise.[3] Short Round was first mentioned in a Star Wars product in the twenty-fifth issue of the magazine Bantha Tracks, which was published in the summer of 1984 and included an interview with Quan.[4] Within the Indiana Jones universe, the character's real name was established to be Wan Li in the 1996 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Sourcebook.[5]
Short Round then appeared in the Indiana Jones—Star Wars non-canon crossover story "Into the Great Unknown," written by W. Haden Blackman, illustrated by Sean Gordon Murphy, and published in the nineteenth issue of Star Wars Tales by Dark Horse Comics[1] on May 14, 2004.[6] Short Round appears older in the comic[1] than in Temple of Doom, which takes place in the year 1935.[7] Blackman later stated that the comic would have to take place either seven or eight years after the events of that film.[2]
