Sap was a substance found in the wood of certain trees that could be processed into syrup. Holshef, an elderly poet, once worked in his youth on Lothal as a sap collector, collecting greel-wood sap to process into greel-wood syrup. Sap was a material in the Nightsisters' Water of Life. Saps collected from Tenoo trees were made into a sap beverage. Hardened sap can be eaten like candy.

Description[]

Sap was a fluid substance produced from various types of trees throughout the galaxy. It came in various colors, such as amber,[3] brown,[1] and purple.[4] It was often used as an ingredient to produce foods[2] and beverages.[5] Some saps were able to be consumed raw when hardened, such as the ones collected from Tenoo trees, being compared to eating a candy.[3]

History[]

High Republic era[]

In 232 BBY,[6] during the heights of the Jedi Order; a cafe in the town of Kublop Springs, Hap's Sap Tap, served various beverages based on saps.[5] The proprietary of the establishment, Hap, often invented his own twist on sap beverages.[7]

Clone Wars[]

During the Clone Wars, in 20 BBY;[8] a clan of Nightsisters led by Mother Talzin concocted the healing potion, Water of Life,[9] which used saps as one of its ingredients.[10] They offered the liquid to baptize Asajj Ventress into a Nightsister.[9]

Imperial era[]

Imperial Refinery Kashyyyk

A sap refinery on Kashyyyk

In 14 BBY,[11] during the reign of the Galactic Empire; the planet Kashyyyk was under Imperial occupation. They had built a sap refinery within its forests. The Partisan leader Saw Gerrera suspected that the refinery turned the saps into a powerful compound. On his way to help liberate the Wookiees, the Jedi Cal Kestis explored the facility, seeing pools of sap collected from the wroshyr tree being mixed and processed.[1]

The human Holshef was a sap collector who gathered saps of the greel-wood trees on the planet Lothal. He used the saps to be turned into greel-wood syrups.[2] However, by 4 ABY,[12] he had become an artist and a poet, using his talent to express his disdain against the Empire.[2]
