Sand sharks were sharks that lived in the planet Naboo's southern seas. The eyes of the sharks could be used to make chandeliers when dried out, as the membranes within could show their natural iridescence once the creature was dead. At some point during the High Republic Era, San Tekka family patriarchs Marlowe and Vellis San Tekka decorated the former's private dining room in their compound on the planet Naboo with three of the chandeliers.[1]
In 228 BBY,[2] the Nihil General Abediah Viess took over the residence following Marlow and Vellis fleeing Naboo to escape the marauders. Viess shared in Marlowe's dining room with her captive, Cair San Tekka—a younger member of the family who engaged in anti-Nihil resistance activities—expounding on the latter's uncles' decor selections. Cair, who had been aware of the gruesome details of his uncles' furnishings, felt ill as she calmly continued feeding herself urchins.[1]

The dried eyes of sand sharks appeared in the 2024 novel Temptation of the Force, written by Tessa Gratton and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[3]
