"Rishi? I've heard of Rishi. It's a planet. Some kind of pirate resort? Sounds like a real dive. I've kinda always wanted to go."
Vette[9]

Rishi was a tropical planet in the Rishi system which was located in the Outer Rim Territories. The planet was the homeworld of the avian Rishii.

Description[]

"Why you want to live in hot, humid lowlands? Mountains are much better."
―A Rishii questions non-Rishii settlers' choice of home location[4]

The surface of Rishi

Rishi was a planet located in the Abrion sector of the Outer Rim Territories, along the Manda Merchant Route. It was also the endpoint of the only well-traveled hyperlane into the Rishi Maze, the Zareca String.[1]

Rishi was the homeworld of the Rishii, a winged species, who lived in nests on the mountains of Rishi.[4]

In addition to the lush tropical terrain, Rishi's surface featured mountains, valleys, and swamps. Human and alien colonists lived in the deep valleys, while the Rishii lived in the high mountains.[10]

The planet was known for its rich fossil fuel resources, especially exonium.[11]

History[]

Old Republic era[]

"Nothing on Rishi but pirates and gunrunners."
Zenith[9]

Rishi was discovered more than a century before the Galactic War by a group of pirates, the Nova Blades, when their starship crash-landed on the planet after a failed attempt to explore the Rishi Maze. Unable to leave Rishi, the Nova Blades settled on the planet and eventually learned to refine its fossil fuels. However, the Nova Blades later chose to stay on the planet and made Rishi a paradise for many criminals in the galaxy.[12] While they initially did not bother the natives, who were greatly curious about them and their activites, a young Rishii named Arankau suspected they would eventually attack them. He studied their behavior and combat abilities, so when the Nova Blades eventually tried to attack, they were severally, but all non-fatally, wounded by an ambush consisting of dozen of Rishii. From then on, the Rishii were never bothered by outsiders.[13]

During the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, Rishi was the theater of the Battle of Rishi between the two powers and the Order of Revan.[5]

In the leadup to the battle, eight individuals, each a hero of either the Republic or Empire, were drawn to Rishi: the Hero of Tython, a Jedi Knight and slayer of Darth Vitiate, the Sith Emperor,[14] The Barsen'thor, a member of the Jedi Council,[15] the Voidhound, a smuggler who had killed the notorious Admiral Harridax "The Voidwolf" Kirill,[16] Meteor, the current leader of the elite Havoc Squad, the Emperor's Wrath, the Sith Emperor's personal enforcer and executioner,[17] Darth Nox, a member of the Dark Council,[18] a hunter, who had obtained the title of Grand Champion of the Great Hunt,[19] and Cipher Nine.[20]

The Hero of Tython met with Orgus Din, their late master, in the form of a Force ghost, in his childhood home on the planet. The deceased Jedi Master gave his Padawan one final lesson, encouraging the Padawan, who had been immersed in death and warfare for so long, to help the people of Rishi and be reminded through good deeds what it truly means to be a Jedi. To fullfill his Master's last wish, the Padawan and Archiban Frodrick Kimble cured homeless people of the Corellian Tanamen Fever for free. Having cleared rubble and repaired the monsoon baffles aswell, Orgus revealed to his Padawan that the upcoming year will have a better wet season on Rishi.[14]

The Barsen'thor was contacted by Satele Shan, who requested they construct a holocron to preserve their knowledge and insight. With the help of Jedi Master Kutri O'a and their Padawan Nadia Grell, the Third Barsen'thor's holocron was successfully constructed.[15]

Ten Years after the Battle of Rishi, according to a Force vision experienced and shared by Orgus Din, the people of Rishi chased away the pirates except for those that have settled down completely. And a century later, Rishi might have become a thriving planet with its locals living in harmony with life and nature.[14]

Modern history[]

"There's only one target of interest in this sector: Kamino. It's the closest thing we clones have to a home. Today we fight for more than the Republic. Today we fight for all our brothers back home."

In 60 BBY,[10] some 50,000 H'kig fundamentalist followers left the Core world of Galand and founded a religious colony on Rishi. However the group quickly dissolved in religious schism, with a minority who left the planet and settled another colony on J't'p'tan.[7] Many smugglers later used Rishi as a base because of the colonists' tolerance.[4]

During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems attempted to plunder Rishi's rich exonium mines. This invasion was repulsed by Kit Fisto, his clones, and the native Rishii.[8] During the Clone Wars, there was a small Republic listening post on the Rishi moon. Because of its close proximity to Kamino, Rishi was considered a last defense of the clone-producing planet. This base was used to warn the Republic fleet of any CIS ships entering the area. The base was attacked by the Confederate General Grievous and his forces during the war. The station was destroyed by CT-782 when he sacrificed himself to alert the Republic Navy, forcing the Separatist fleet to retreat.[3]

During the Galactic Civil War, the smuggler Talon Karrde and his lieutenant Mara Jade had a base here, which became his main base of operations after his base at Myrkr was compromised during the Thrawn campaign. The base was quickly abandoned after the bounty hunter Gunner Groth discovered the presence of Karrde's smugglers on Rishi.[6]
