"You left. You don't know anything. This should have been my fight, my chance at greatness. But you stole it from me. Again."
―Ri'kan Kateen to his sister Sa'har[5]

Ri'kan Kateen, known to the Hidden Chain as Hibir of Heta Kol,[6] was a Force-sensitive Twi'lek male who lived at the Mek-Sha Home for Lost Children during the time of the Old Republic, and later in life became a Mandalorian and a member of the Hidden Chain.[4]

Biography[]

Childhood[]

Years before the third Galactic War, Ri'kan and his younger sister Sa'har Kateen were both orphaned at a young age. Both spent their earliest years at the Mek-Sha Home for Lost Children, an orphanage located on the space station of Mek-Sha.[7] Sometime later, both began to show signs of Force-sensitivity, though Ri'kan's connection to the Force was not as strong as his sister's. At some point, Sa'har was taken by Jedi Master Denolm Orr to be trained as a Jedi, but she was forced to leave Ri'kan behind due to her brother's weaker connection to the Force.[1]

Becoming a Mandalorian[]

Ri'kan would though go on to become a Mandalorian and a member of the Hidden Chain long before the start of the Third Galactic War. Two years before the battle between the Hidden Chain and Shae Vizla's forces, Ri'kan and his group were hired by the Sith Empire on Belsavis for an unknown mission and they encountered a team of Mandalorians, hired by the Republic, led by Layla Ordo. The teams clashed with one another resulting in causalities on both sides with Layla dead and Ri'kan escaping thereby failing the Empire's mission for which Ri'kan personally blamed Clan Ordo mainly due to losing some of Heta's best people, which he prioritized over the Empire.[8]

Reunion with Sa'har[]

Ri'kan is released from his cell by Sa'har.

During the Third Galactic War, Ri'kan was captured by the Mandalorians and was unexpectedly rescued by his sister: Sa'har Kateen. Ri'kan did not acknowledge her nor showed any interest in Sa'har's attempts at reconciling with each other. Ri'kan defensively stated that she had left him and now he did not need her. After one last desperate act from Sa'har, Ri'kan relented by telling her that although he did not need her, he knew of someone who could use her and instructed her to follow him and not ask any questions. Ri'kan then took Sa'har to the Hidden Chain's base of operations, reunited with Heta Kol and introduced his sister to his comrades.[4]

During their "partnership" in the Hidden Chain, Sa'har informed Ri'kan that she was in the possession of a Sith holocron belonging to Darth Nul and that Darth Malgus was seeking it. She also informed him that the holocron was the key to a powerful weapon.[8]

Showdown on Ruhnuk[]

Ri'kan brings Sa'har to meet with Heta Kol.

On Ruhnuk, Ri'kan ventured out to meetup with a Clan Varad patrol guarding a signal tower and chastises the two that if they didn't report in then it would him come out and make Clan Varad look bad. When one arrogantly stated that they answered to the Field Marshal rather than Ri'kan, Ri'kan then punched him and told the other to educate his fellow recruit and then departed.[3] Later on, Ri'kan was on a holocall with Sa'har until Sa'har was interrupted unexpectedly which ended the call prematurely. Ri'kan once again contacted Sa'har and asked her to bring the holocron back with her until the call was once again interrupted by Shae shooting it.[9]

Ri'kan was present with Heta Kol and a few Hidden Chain members when they confronted the Alliance Commander immobilized by four sonic disruptors courtesy of Bask Sunn. Ri'kan also drew his blade when Shae angrily confronted Heta only to stop with Heta's command. After Heta and Shae headed for the arena, Ri'kan knocked out the Commander and ordered the Dar'manda to take care of them and anything else would be blamed on Dar'manda. In the arena, Ri'kan listened to Heta's speech on what separates them from the rest of the Mandalorians, witnessed Shae's arrival and to start the duel, Ri'kan softly smashed his fist into his chest with the rest of the Hidden Chain following suit.[8]

Rikan Kateen challenges Rass Ordo

Ri'kan Kateen challenges Rass Ordo amidst the battle.

After the duel, Ri'kan took part in the battle between the Hidden Chain and Shae's forces where he dispatched several Mandalorians and recognized Rass Ordo to which he began targeting him only to be held off by Rass's blaster rifle. But when the rifle was depleted of ammo, Ri'kan took the opportunity to injure Rass with his large vibrosword and when he moved in to finish off Rass, he was attacked by the Alliance Commander who relentlessly attacked Ri'kan only to be saved by Sa'har who pushed the Commander away using the Force and then the two rocket boosted to an Eternal Empire shuttle and waited for Heta to join them before departing Ruhnuk with their fleet.[8]

Rikan Kateen and Heta Kol

Ri'kan Kateen and Heta Kol discuss abandoning Ruhnuk.

Upon exiting hyperspace, Ri'kan did not lose faith in Heta's cause and reminded her that regardless of the result, the Hidden Chain's cause is just and that Heta will see them through to the end. Then he then told Heta of a weapon that Sa'har told him about which prompted Sa'har to intervene at which Ri'kan emotionally blackmailed her telling her that she promised to help them. When Heta moved to talk to Sa'har he added that even Malgus covets the weapon which further adds significance to it and was visibly angry that Heta confided with Sa'har in secret while being ordered to not disturb them.[8]

Heta's New Plan[]

After Ruhnuk, Ri'kan was busy focusing on a holomap while Sa'har walked in and levitated a holopad with the Force to Ri'kan's annoyance which he demanded that she stop that. Sa'har encourages Ri'kan to try it as he has the power to when he replies that it wasn't what "her" Jedi friend said to which Sa'har says that she is the one telling him that he can do it. Ri'kan tries to use the Force but it doesn't work, and he grows frustrated he pulls out a dagger which he destroys the holopad with. He then tells Sa'har that this was the same dagger Heta used to liberate him as a slave and he has his own future such as becoming a Mandalorian was the greatest thing to ever happen to him while, unknown to both of them, Ri'kan was moving the holopad with the Force, albeit slightly.[10]

Ri'kan watched silently as Heta addressed the Hidden Chain of how the events on Ruhnuk were to be blamed on Bask Sunn, that the Dar'manda were their new enemy and that Darth Nul's holocron will be their new trump card against Shae Vizla. Ri'kan became furious when Heta did not include him in her new inner circle, which included just her and Sa'har. When the Hidden Chain left, Ri'kan stormed off, unaware that he violently touched the holopad with the Force.[10]

Defeat[]

Ri'kan faces off against Sa'har and the Commander.

Ri'kan was stationed on board the ship where Darth Nul's holocron and the machine, replicated from Nul's Temple on Elom, was located. In their attempt to steal the holocron, Ri'kan angrily confronted Sa'har and the Alliance Commander while telling his sister that she came back only to take everthing from him again as he readied himself for battle. Ri'kan activate the machine in hopes that it will kill both the Commander and Sa'har at the cost of his life but it failed and managed to knock Ri'kan off the platform only to be rescued by Sa'har. While the Commander claimed the holocron, this left the Twi'lek siblings stuck as, due to the machine overloading, the ship was destroyed leaving the fates of both Ri'kan and Sa'har unknown.[6]
