R5-2JE, also known as "Toojay," was an R5 series astromech droid that served as the head of the droid pool for the forest landing area in the Resistance base on the moon Ajan Kloss. The droid also filled out shipboard astromech duties, and used a restraining bolt that had been modified into a command signal bolt that allowed R5-2JE to send commands and work orders to similarly equipped Resistance droids from a distance.[2]
In 35 ABY,[4] R5-2JE was among those in the base who celebrated the Resistance's victory in the war against the First Order on the planet Exegol. The droid stood by the Millennium Falcon, a YT-1300 light freighter, when Resistance members Chewbacca and Rose Tico embraced each other during the festivities.[3] As an R-series unit[2] R5-2JE was manufactured by Industrial Automaton. It stood 97 centimeters tall[1] and had red and white plating and silver photoreceptors. The droid was also equipped with spacecraft linkage and control arms.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
R5-2JE was created for the sequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker,[3] which was released on December 20, 2019.[5] The droid was revealed prior to the film's release in a Star Wars: Droid Factory pack of figures tied into the film and released by The Walt Disney Company[6] in November, 2019.[7] The droid was then identified as "Toojay" in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo and released alongside the film.[2]
