"But while I was there, I woulda been a blasted fool not to pick up a couple bushels of Barlok's most prized produce, the native prisht-fruit. A mouthful of the prisht's succulent flesh is practically perfection all on its lonesome, but when it's sliced onto a salad or baked in a cake, it boosts things to a whole new level."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Prisht-fruit was a type of sweet fruit that was native to the planet Barlok, where it was the world's most prized produce. The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs enjoyed eating the fruit on its own, but preferred to use them as an ingredient in prisht parfait and included a recipe for the dish in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, in 35 ABY.

Description[]

Prisht-fruit, also referred to as just prisht, was a type of naturally sweet, red-and-yellow fruit native to the Inner Rim planet Barlok, a world renowned for its advanced horticultural techniques. The succulent flesh of the fruit was consumable on its own or when sliced and added to salads or baked into cakes.[1]

History[]

"I like to keep it simple, though, mixin' in a little fresh cream to balance out the fruit's natural sweetness as part of this classic prisht parfait."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Strono Tuggs used prisht-fruit to make prisht parfait.

After the Hetzal system's Solar Array 22-X was struck by debris during the Great Hyperspace Disaster[2] in 232 BBY,[3] Captain Finial Bright of the Galactic Republic's Republic Defense Coalition and his crew attempted to rescue those on the damaged solar collection station. After discovering an injured and unconscious Twi'lek crewmember, Bright attempted to lift him but found the deadweight of the Twi'lek too heavy,[2] as he weighed as much as a sack of prisht-fruit.[4] Bright then had to get a pill droid to lift the Twi'lek and carry him off the station instead.[2]

The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs considered eating prisht-fruit on its own near perfection and believed that using it in other dishes elevated them significantly, but his preferred use for it was a simple prisht parfait, which used a small amount of fresh cream to balance out the prisht-fruit's sweetness.[1] During a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[5] Tuggs picked up two bushels of prisht-fruit on Barlok, believing he would be a fool not to, as it was the planet's most prized produce. He then included a recipe for prisht parfait in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

In the current Star Wars canon, prisht-fruit was first mentioned in the German translation of the 2021 novel The High Republic: Light of the Jedi,[4] which was authored by Charles Soule[2] and translated by Andreas Kasprzak[4] as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I.[6] The mention was not included in the English release.[2] The out-of-universe recipe for prisht parfait in the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook—which was written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak and included the first depiction of the fruit—includes two real fruits: mango and hulled and quartered strawberries.[1] Prisht fruit originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in Timothy Zahn's 2006 novel, Outbound Flight.[7]

  5. 5.0 5.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
