Orn Kios was an Outer Rim Territories planet situated in the Yarith sector. It was home to a populace known as the Ornki that practiced fishing and lived in lightweight structures built atop giant lily pads. During the early stages of the settlement of the Greater Javin region which eventually included the Yarith sector, Galactic Republic merchants launched from worlds such as Orn Kios in search of new local trade routes. To the Ornki's resentment, Orn Kios eventually became a tourist attraction.

Description[]

Orn Kios was a planet[2] located in the Orn Kios system, a part of the Yarith sector. It was situated in the Greater Javin region within the Western Reaches portion of the Outer Rim Territories. The world lay on the Corellian Trade Spine super-hyperroute, which connected it to the Darlyn Boda and Ozu systems of the neighboring Anoat sector.[1] The surface of Orn Kios featured water, and its lifeforms included fish as well as colossal lily pads.[2]

History[]

After the Galactic Republic's victory in a war against the nearby civilization of the Mugaari species[2] at some point between approximately 1000 BBY and 600 BBY,[4] the former established the Javin sector in the former Mugaari Space. There, launching from newly colonized worlds such as Orn Kios, Republic merchants unsuccessfully attempted to discover shortcut trade routes through the region's Twin Nebulae—the Ivax and Kiax Nebulae—that would better connect the civilizations of the alien Lutrillians and Nothoiins to the wider galaxy.[2]

Around 400 BBY,[3] the portion of the sector containing Orn Kios was re-designated as the Anoat sector, and generations after that, the Anoat itself was further split into two parts, with Orn Kios becoming a part of the new Yarith sector.[2] At some point by 43 ABY,[5] Orn Kios became a tourism destination, a fact that disgusted the planet's native Ornki inhabitants.[1]

Inhabitants[]

The inhabitants of Orn Kios, known as the Ornki,[1] resided in settlements that consisted of lightweight wood-and-canvas structures built on the planet's lily pads. The Ornki supported themselves through fishing[2] and resented their homeworld becoming a tourist attraction.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Orn Kios was introduced in Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game supplement "Galactic Gazetteer: Hoth and the Greater Javin," which was published on Wizards.com on March 25, 2004.[2] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the world in grid square K-18.[1]

Since the supplement dates Figg's death to "nearly four centuries" prior to its setting, the establishment of the Anoat sector can be placed in approximately 400 BBY.

This establishes an approximate time frame of 1000 BBY600 BBY for the war.
