At the end of the Clone Wars, the Galactic Empire claimed and occupied the Outer Rim planet Utapau. After the Empire took over, much of the Pau'an population left the planet and settled in other areas of the galaxy. The Empire set up fortifications across Utapau that guarded the sinkholes where many of the residents of the planet lived.[4]

- ↑ 2.0 2.1 2.2 Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith establishes that the occupation of Utapau began under the Galactic Republic, while Disciples of Harmony establishes it continued under the Galactic Empire. Therefore, the occupation must be concurrent to the Republic's transformation into the Empire. Furthermore, Revenge of the Sith establishes that the Clone Wars and Great Jedi Purge occur concurrent to the foundation of the Empire, meaning those conflicts are also concurrent to the occupation of Utapau.

Tion Medon in the Encyclopedia (content now obsolete; backup link) establishes that the occupation of Utapau began directly after the Battle of Utapau, which Star Wars: Galactic Atlas states was in 19 BBY.
