"No… Palabee… It's not true. It can't be."
―Nipaltoo, after learning of the fall of the Jedi Order[2]

Nipaltoo was an individual who served fallen Jedi Padawan Ferren Barr as one of his six acolytes. As a child, their sister Palabee was taken in by the Jedi Order. After learning of the fall of the Jedi in 19 BBY, Nipaltoo was manipulated by Barr into joining his disciples, believing Palabee to have been killed by the Galactic Empire with the rest of the Jedi. Barr's disciples were stationed in Barr's refuge on the planet Mon Cala until the Sith Lord Darth Vader and his Jedi-hunting Inquisitors discovered their location in 18 BBY. Barr and the disciples evacuated the refuge, traveling underwater using diving suits only to find Vader had arrived in an Imperial submarine. Nipaltoo shot at the submarine, but their helmet was crushed by Vader using the Force, killing them.

Biography[]

Despair and desperation[]

"Where are they taking Palabee, mother?"
"Oh, Nipaltoo… They are taking your sister very far away. To a new, better life. She's going to be a Jedi."
―Nipaltoo and his mother[2]

Nipaltoo questions their mother as their sister leaves to become a Jedi.

Sometime before the reign of the Galactic Empire, when Nipaltoo was a child, they watched their sister, Palabee, be taken away by the Jedi to be trained as a member of the Jedi Order. When Nipaltoo asked their distraught mother where their sister was going, she told Nipaltoo that Palabee was leaving to have a better life as a Jedi.[2]

Following the execution of Order 66[2]—a directive for the Galactic Republic's clone troopers to execute the Jedi—in 19 BBY,[3] Nipaltoo gathered with a crowd to watch a news broadcast of the new Emperor Palpatine's proclamation to the galaxy on a massive viewscreen. After Palpatine declared that the nascent Empire had destroyed the Jedi, Nipaltoo realized that their sister had been killed and developed a hatred of the Empire. Eventually, Nipaltoo encountered former Jedi Padawan Ferren Barr,[2] who had fallen to the dark side of the Force[4] and started stylizing himself as a Jedi Master, at a cantina. Barr promised Nipaltoo justice for their sister's death, though Nipaltoo was initially unsure how the two of them would accomplish their goal. They were then manipulated by Barr with the Force into joining the former Jedi's band of acolytes.[2]

Doomed disciple[]

"No… Don't"
―Nipaltoo's dying words[2]

By 18 BBY,[1] Barr and his disciples, including Nipaltoo, were based on the Outer Rim waterworld Mon Cala. During their time there,[5] Sith Lord[3] Darth Vader went to Mon Cala to hunt Barr, finding their cave refuge by torturing King Lee-Char. Learning of Vader's approach, Barr told Nipaltoo and his disciples about Vader originally being the Jedi Anakin Skywalker who turned to the dark side and attacked the Jedi Temple on[5] the planet[4] Coruscant. Displaying a hologram of recordings of Vader's actions using his astromech droid Endee, Barr explained that Skywalker had become Vader and at that time was hunting Jedi with the Inquisitorius, a team of former Jedi turned Jedi hunters. Barr assured his disciples that he had a plan to avenge the Jedi and plant the seeds of rebellion.[5]

Nipaltoo then joined Barr and the other disciples in watching the progress of Mon Cala's battle against the Empire on a hologram projected by Endee. Barr was then warned that Vader knew their location by Lee-Char[6] and prepared to evacuate the refuge. After Nipaltoo and the other acolytes donned self-contained diving suits, Nipaltoo asked Barr where they were going. Barr explained that they would look for a nearby settlement and then find a way off of the planet. Nipaltoo and the others then dived into the ocean via a hole in the cave and used Underwater Turbo Sled Pikes to travel. However, they soon encountered Vader in an Imperial submarine, disciple Stell urging them all to scatter. Nipaltoo told Stell not to, though, insisting that if they could concentrate fire on the Imperial sub they could end the fight quickly. Nipaltoo then shot at the submarine with a blaster, only for Vader, who was on board, to crush their helmet by using the Force, killing them.[2]

Personality and traits[]

"You will find justice for your sister's murder, Nipaltoo. I swear it on the Force."
"But how, Master Barr?"
"Follow me."
―Nipaltoo and Ferren Barr[2]

Nipaltoo had white eyes and tan skin. They hated the Empire for killing their sister and wanted to avenge her death. During the invasion of Mon Cala, they did not want to scatter and run and defiantly insisted on trying to fight.[2]

Skills and abilities[]

"We need to all concentrate fire on the sub! If we can take it out, this will all be over!"
―Nipaltoo[2]

Nipaltoo was skilled with a blaster and was able to accurately fire at a submarine. They could also drive an Underwater Turbo Sled Pike.[2]

Equipment[]

When their sister was taken as a child, Nipaltoo wore an orange shirt and pants with a brown necklace that had a white ornament. When they first met with Ferren Barr, they wore an orange jacket over a white shirt. As one of Ferren Barr's disciples, Nipaltoo wore Jedi apparel and carried a blaster. They also utilized a scuba-diving outfit and an Underwater Turbo Sled Pike to try to escape from the disciple's cave on Mon Cala.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Nipaltoo first appeared, albeit unidentified, in the fourteenth issue of the comic series Star Wars: Darth Vader (2017), which was written by Charles Soule, illustrated by Giuseppe Camuncoli, and released by Marvel Comics[5] on April 11, 2018.[7] They were first identified as Nipaltoo in the sixteenth issue of the series, also by Soule, which was released by Marvel[2] on May 9 of that year.[8]
