During the war between the Resistance and First Order, the Quarren pirate Kragan Gorr, along with his Warbird pirates, staged a mutiny aboard the Colossus in an attempt to seize control of the supertanker fuel depot. The mutiny was unsuccessful, however, and the pirates were allowed to leave the station in exchange for the promise of not returning.

Prelude[]

Prior to the Hosnian Cataclysm,[5] Kragan Gorr's Warbird pirate gang regularly raided the Colossus refueling platform on the planet Castilon at the behest of the First Order.[6] The First Order wanted to use the Colossus as a military supply line as part of their invasion of the galaxy.[7]

Eventually, one pirate named Synara San became separated from her group and was rescued by the Resistance pilots Kazuda Xiono and Poe Dameron. Xiono, who resided on the Colossus, help her settle into her new home. Synara was initially a spy for the pirates but came to develop bonds with the Colossus residents particularly Xiono.[8] After the First Order occupied the Colossus, Xiono helped her to escape.[9]

After the First Order hired the Warbirds to kidnap the Colossus's leader Captain Imanuel Doza's daughter Torra Doza, the First Order turned on their allies and staged Torra's rescue in order to convince Doza to accept their protection. As a result, the Warbirds broke their alliance with the First Order.[10] They later helped Colossus resistance to expel the First Order and accompanied the station into space.[11]

Though the Warbirds helped the Colossus to obtain coaxium from the wrecked Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnought Fulminatrix[12] and hunt a jakoosk,[13] there were tensions between Captain Doza and the pirates. Doza regarded the pirates as untrustworthy while Kragan coveted the Colossus for himself and his pirates.[2] These tensions were exploited by the First Order agent Nenavakasa Nalor.[14]

Kragan's plot[]

Seeking to take over the Colossus for the Warbirds, Kragan bought several old B2-series super battle droids from Sidon Ithano, the infamous "Crimson Corsair."The absence of Kragan and several of his pirates sparked a new round of tensions with Captain Doza, who warned that his and the Colossus community's patience with the pirates was wearing thin. He confined the Warbirds to their hangar Suspecting the pirates were up to something, Doza and Jarek Yeager tasked the mechanic Neeku Vozo with spying on the Warbirds.[2]

Meanwhile, Synara, who had grown close to several Colossus residents, grew suspicious of Kragan's new shipment. Regarding her loyalties as suspect, Kragan sent Synara to the Colossus marketplace to aid with food distribution. There, she met with Xiono, who expressed concerns that Neeku, Doza, and Yeager had been acting "weird lately."[2]

After Kragan claimed that the B2 super battle droids would be use to defend the Colossus, a seemingly unsuspecting Neeku agreed to help the pirates repair the damaged droids. Suspecting that Kragan was plotting something, Neeku also reprogrammed a B1-series battle droid which he nicknamed "BI" to serve as their commander. Once the droids were ready, Kragan had Neeku thrown into a makeshift cell. When Kaz and Synara went to investigate, they too were thrown into the same cell.[2]

The droid invasion[]

Kragan, his pirates, and their new "droid army" invaded the Colossus, capturing several areas including the engineering deck, corridors, turbolift, and Doza Tower. The super battle droids overwhelmed Captain Doza's security droids and caught the Ace Squadron by surprise. Following a gun battle, Captain Doza and Yeager were also captured in Doza's office but not before taking out a few super battle droids.[2]

Meanwhile, "B1" freed Neeku, Xiono, and Synara from their cell. They fought their way through the corridors, taking down several pirates including Drell, Valik and Skreek. By the time they had reached Doza's office, they found that the pirates had captured Doza, Yeager, and 4D-M1N.[2]

Kragan intended to force Doza, Yeager, and 4D-M1N to walk off the hangar. Shortly later, Neeku and his companions arrived and challenged Kragan. Kragan ordered his battle droids to eliminate them. However, Neeku ordered "B1" to command the super battle droids to arrest all the pirates except Synara. With the battle droids under Neeku's control, the pirates' mutiny was defeated.[2]

Aftermath[]

Following the defeat of Kragan's mutiny attempt, Synara convinced Captain Doza to let the pirates go since imprisoning them would take up the space station's limited time and resources. As a safety measure, Synara convinced Doza to confiscate their weapons, disable the pirate ship Galleon's hyperdrive and to free them in return for not coming back to the Colossus. A defeated Kragan accepted the deal but was bitter towards Synara since he had raised her like a daughter. Synara countered that exile was merciful and that her debt to him was paid.[2]

Later, Neeku told Kaz that he had learned to be a spy from Xiono, surmising that being naive and clumsy helped trick the pirates.[2]
