"My father was a senator on Coruscant, and he was working with the Jedi to negotiate the release of the Daan's leader held captive by the Melida. It wasn't until the extraction that we realized it was a trap to show all of Daan's allies what could happen."
―Axel Greylark[1]

The Melida were a group that inhabited Melida/Daan in the Cadavine sector alongside the Daan. When the Melida took the leader of the Daan captive, a Republic senator and his eighteen year old son, Axel Greylark, embarked on a diplomatic mission with the Jedi Order to negotiate for the release of the leader. The mission however, was a trap to show all of the Daan's allies what would happen to those that helped them. During the extraction there was an explosion that buried the senator under rubble, but as the Melida were coming, a Jedi Knight pulled an injured Greylark away, forcing him to leave his father to die.[1] In 382 BBY,[2] Greylark told the Jedi Gella Nattai about the incident.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

In the current Star Wars canon, the Melida were first mentioned in the 2022 novel The High Republic: Convergence by Zoraida Córdova.[1] The Melida originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they first appeared in Jude Watson's 1999 young readers novel Jedi Apprentice: The Defenders of the Dead.[3]
