"So, to celebrate, we spent the next week and a half bar hopping around Mandrine."
―The memoirs of Captain Scarlet Bloodhawk[3]

Mandrine was a celestial body located in the Outer Rim Territories' Kessel sector. It featured several bars, including Maizie's. During the Galactic Civil War, the crew of the smuggling starship Capri Nitari visited Mandrine's bars to celebrate a successful spice trafficking run. At Maizie's, the vessel's Captain Scarlet Bloodhawk met the mercenary Kelly Vermillion and his companions Tyric and Nana, who became involved in a bar fight against Kronus and his thugs, which resulted in Kronus's death. Bloodhawk later visited the same bar on Mandrine on several occasions.

Description[]

Mandrine was a terrestrial astronomical object[3] located in the Mandrine system, a part of the Kessel sector[1] in the Slice portion of[2] the Outer Rim Territories.[1]

History[]

"Maizie's was really hopping with some bird-man named Tyric playing the synthesizer, and the light displays were going full blast. I was enjoying it…until Kronus and his goons showed up and started a brawl."
―The memoirs of Captain Scarlet Bloodhawk[3]

At some point during the Galactic Civil War, after completing the profitable spice trafficking run known along the Kessel Run hyperlane, the crew of the smuggling starship Capri Nitari, which included Captain Scarlet Bloodhawk, Haynes, and Shandar, visited Mandrine to celebrate their success. The trio visited the celestial body's bars for a week and a half, eventually making a stop at Maizie's.[3]

The Human/Orlak mercenary Kelly Vermillion and his companions, the Shaliz'Na Tyric and the Homanan shapeshifter Nana, were also present on Mandrine at that time. While Bloodhawk was at Maizie's, Haynes encountered Nana, who had assumed the form of a Wookiee, at the spaceport. Later, the captain met Vermilion and Tyric at the bar, before Kronus and his group of underlings initiated a brawl. Eventually, Tyric killed Kronus with one of the thug's thermal detonators.[3]

Bloodhawk encountered the bounty hunter Justice and his companion, Truth, at Maizie's on another occasion. As the captain was about to visit the bar once again, she described her first meeting with Vermillion and his crew at the Mandrine establishment in her memoirs.[3]

Locations[]

"[…] I had a call from my buddy Haynes who said there was a problem at the starport, a wookie [sic] throwing its weight around, nosing around our ship."
―The memoirs of Captain Scarlet Bloodhawk[3]

Several bars were scattered across Mandrine's surface, including Maizie's. Mandrine also had a spaceport, and the celestial body was orbited by several satellites.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Mandrine was introduced in "The New Rogues Gallery: Unsung Heroes of the Rebellion," a roleplaying game source article authored by Joe Littrell for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game and published in the fifty-ninth issue of the Polyhedron magazine in May 1991. Since the article was released outside of the Lucas Licensing process, its canonicity within the Star Wars Legends continuity was never confirmed.[3]

However, Jason Fry,[4] co-author of the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas,[2] has stated that the star systems listed in the book's Appendix section are named after the most prominent planets or celestial bodies located in those systems. This article therefore considers the existence of Mandrine to be canonical with respect to the Legends continuity.[4] The Essential Atlas placed the Mandrine system, and therefore Mandrine itself, in grid square T-10.[2]
