Magic,[2] magick,[3] or sorcery[4] was a type of mystical power.[1] Some of the more esoteric uses of the Force, in particular, were regarded as magic,[5] such as the magick of Dathomir.[6] This lead to some using the term as a synonym for the Force as a whole.[7][8] From this point of view, the dark side was referred to at times as "dark magic";[9] the Jedi, however, were critical of this assessment of the Force, including Jedi Master Mace Windu[10] and Jedi Knight Gella Nattai.[11]
Types of magic included Gungan magic,[2] the dark side power known as death magic,[7] the aspect of the Force originating from Dathomir called magick,[6] and the Force-based (which they called the Thread) arcane practices of the Brendok coven.[12] One who practiced magic was known as a magician,[13] although female practitioners of darker forms of magic were often more specifically called witches.[6][12] Tusken Raiders believed there was magick in the desert.[3]
