"I'm going to figure it out, you know."
"Figure out what?"
"What it is you want. Why you're so interested in the Senate all the time."
―Kooib-s Guvar and Sabé[1]

Kooib-s Guvar was a humanoid female holojournalist for a prestigious newsnet on the Core Worlds planet Coruscant. Aside from her main job, she also wrote for a tabloid to earn extra credits. In 28 BBY, she was contacted by Captain Tonra—who was posing as a journalism student—during his research into newsnet contacts for his employer, Senator Padmé Amidala.

After briefly flirting with Guvar and enamoring her, Tonra passed her contact information to his colleague, Amidala's handmaiden Sabé. For some time, Guvar and Sabé began meeting in the restaurant Dex's Diner to exchange information about the Galactic Senate and its members. On one such occasion, the holojournalist informed Sabé about Senator Mon Mothma's upcoming party and expressed her curiousity about the latter's interest in the Senate. Sabé flirted with Guvar in return—finding the humanoid attractive—but ultimately decided to cease reaching out to Guvar in the future to prevent the holojournalist from discovering she worked for Amidala.

Biography[]

"What have you got?"
"Ugh. The senator from Chandrila is having a party next week. It's suspected that she will use the gathering as a cover to discuss something with a few handpicked senators, but we don’t know what."
"Why do you care what the senator from Chandrila does at a private function?"
"Because it's not a private function. It's going to be the first time she hosts a public gala, so the newsnets will be there in full force."
―Sabé and Kooib-s Guvar in Dex's Diner[1]

The humanoid female Kooib-s Guvar lived during the Republic Era. At some point, she began working as a holojournalist for one of the most prestigious newsnets on[1] the Core Worlds planet[3] Coruscant. Guvar also wrote stories for a tabloid to make extra credits, despite the establishment being less reputable than her primary job. Over time, she developed several connections in the industry that helped her gain access to new and breaking news for her publications.[1] In 28 BBY,[4] Captain Tonra began researching newsnet contacts on behalf of his employer, Senator Padmé Amidala. He contacted Guvar while posing as a journalism student hoping to break into the market, briefly flirting with the humanoid and enamoring her. Afterward, Tonra passed on the holojournalist's contact information to one of his colleagues, Amidala's handmaiden Sabé.[1]

Dexs Diner

Kooib-s Guvar met with Sabé in Dex's Diner (pictured) to pass on information about the Galactic Senate.

For some time, Guvar and Sabé met to exchange information about the Galactic Senate and its members at Dex's Diner, a restaurant on Coruscant. However, the former often showed up late for their meetings despite often providing ample intelligence for the handmaiden. On one such occasion, Guvar sat down with Sabé in a booth at Dex's Diner and the pair were served cups of caf by a service droid. The holojournalist informed Sabé about Senator Mon Mothma's upcoming party, including the many newsnets invited to the event. Both women agreed that Mothma was planning to invite someone to the party to serve as a distraction to mask the true intent of the gathering.[1]

Guvar questioned the handmaiden's interest in the Senate, though Sabé brushed off her inquiry by flirting with her, saying the holojournalist could be a dancer at the Galaxies Opera House if she wanted to. Though flattered, the humanoid indicated that Tonra was better at flirting than her. The holojournalist then poured her cup of caf on the floor—much to the dismay of the restaurant's service droids—and left. Sabé then considered the risks of the holojournalist discovering she worked for Amidala in her investigations. The handmaiden resolved to try to find a new newsnet contact and only contact Guvar when necessary. While traveling to[1] the Core Worlds planet[3] Alderaan not long afterward, Sabé told the pilot Daneska Varbarós about her and Tonra's encounters with Guvar, including having to extricate the latter man from the holojournalist's attachment to him.[1]

Personality and traits[]

"And I'm a dancer at the Galaxies Opera House."
"You could be."
"Why, Tsabin! You should leave the flirting to Tonra. He's much better at it."
"That's not particularly reassuring."
"You just need to see him in action. I'm not the only one who could fit right in at the opera house."

Kooib-s Guvar enjoyed Tonra's flirting, finding his company enamoring.

As a holojournalist, Guvar enjoyed finding interesting new information to publish in her articles. Despite the prestige of her newsnet job, she still appreciated earning additional credits by writing for a tabloid. The humanoid was curious about Sabé's interest in the Galactic Senate, finding the handmaiden's excuse of being only a concerned citizen suspicious. Guvar was often consistently late to meeting with Sabé, though the latter felt that the information the humanoid passed on was worth the extra hassle.[1]

Guvar enjoyed Tonra's company and found the man attractive, preferring his flirting to Sabé's, though the holojournalist appreciated the handmaiden's comments on her appearance. Sabé, meanwhile, found Guvar's physical appearance captivating despite not usually being attracted to nonhumans. The holojournalist had mottled purple skin, bright blue eyes, a wide nose, pointed teeth, and hands with seven fingers. The top of the holojournalist's head was ringed with short red spikes that formed into thin points two centimeters tall.[1] Guvar was around 1.65 meters tall.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

"Kooib-s Guvar is Amy Acker. I just really like her, and I like it when she plays the 'shades of grey' character, like in Dollhouse or Alias."
―E. K. Johnston[5]

Kooib-s Guvar appeared in Queen's Shadow, a 2019 young-adult novel written by E. K. Johnston.[1] The author used the actor Amy Acker to inspire the holojournalist's physical appearance, enjoying the actor's portrayal of morally gray characters.[5] On Twitter, Johnston stated that she had been more focused on writing about Sabé's flirtations in the scene with Guvar rather than Tonra's.[6] In an interview years later, the author clarified that moments exploring Sabé and Tonra's attractions throughout the book,[7] which included the moment with the journalist,[6] were intended to definitively portray them as "not straight."[7]
