"What can I get you?"
"Your choice."
―Kimb and Han Solo, at the Halcyon's bar[2]

Kimb was a non-binary bartender who worked in the Sublight Lounge of Chandrila Star Line's MPO-1400 Purgill-class star cruiser Halcyon. In 4 ABY, they made a drink for the Rebel Alliance general Han Solo, who was on his honeymoon aboard the vessel. They observed Solo's discontent with the lounge's no-stakes holo-sabacc games and suggested he find the bridge officer Lyx in the Engineering Room, where a game of sabacc was being played for credit stakes. The general later met Lyx in the room, who was annoyed Kimb had sent him.

Biography[]

"This not your speed?"
"Not exactly. I prefer cards I can touch."
"You know Lyx?"
"No. Should I?"
"Lyx works on the bridge, but sometimes you can find her in the Engineering Room."
―Kimb and Han Solo, with the former informing the general of a secret sabacc game[2]

Kimb worked aboard the Halcyon as a bartender.

The non-binary[1] bartender Kimb lived during the Imperial Era and was employed by Chandrila Star Line, working aboard the MPO-1400 Purgill-class star cruiser Halcyon. At some point, they became acquainted with Lyx, a bridge officer working aboard the vessel who often played sabacc card games in the ship's Engineering Room. While tending to the Sublight Lounge[2] in 4 ABY,[3] they approached Rebel Alliance general Han Solo—who was enjoying his honeymoon on the Halcyon with his wife, Princess Leia Organa—offering to make him a drink. When Solo allowed them to craft any beverage they liked, the bartender swiftly added several ingredients to a shaker before sliding a finished cocktail over to the general. Kimb was pleased that the patron liked the drink, smiling knowingly at him. Solo then carried the drink to a table to play holo-sabacc with other Halcyon guests but eventually felt the games were meaningless as they had no stakes.[2]

Later, Solo gave Kimb a tip to show his appreciation for the drink when dropping off his glass, which the worker gave to a passing server to take away. The bartender, having noticed the patron's dissatisfaction with his holo-sabacc games, studied him for a moment before eventually suggesting that he visit Lyx in the Engineering Room. Out of curiosity, the general went to the room and found Lyx hosting a sabacc game with credit stakes there, as Kimb had hinted. Lyx inquired who Solo was, annoyed upon learning that the bartender had sent him there. As he sat down to join the group for the next round of cards, he briefly thought about the bartender's comments about where the bridge officer worked.[2]

Personality and traits[]

"Han. I'm just looking for a game. You Lyx?"
"Kimb send you?"
"The bartender—"
"Mm-hm."
―Han Solo and Lyx in the Engineering Room[2]

Kimb kept their hair in the Ming Po style, which consisted of braids. They were open and outgoing to the Sublight Lounge's patrons and appreciated when their patrons liked the concoctions they made. Kimb was an observant individual who noticed Solo's dissatisfaction with the lounge's holo-sabacc games. The bartender was willing to let him know about Lyx's private games, despite him being a Halcyon guest and knowing the bridge officer might be annoyed.[2]

Equipment[]

While working aboard the Halcyon, Kimb was able to access the bar's wide liquor selection, which they used to make drinks using bottles and shakers.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Kimb appeared in The Princess and the Scoundrel, a 2022 novel written by Beth Revis.[2] On Twitter, Revis confirmed the novel's usage of "they/them" pronouns for the character indicated they were non-binary.[1]

I was reading The Princess and the Scoundrel and had a question regarding Kimb. The bartender only appears briefly in this scene and uses "they/them" pronouns, so I was curious if the character was intended to be non-binary?")
