"Loralora bird. A rare hybrid from the jungle moon of Ketz!"
―Volt Vescuso — (audio) Listen (file info)[4]

Ketz was a jungle moon located in the Colonies region that was home to a rare species of avian hybrids, loralora birds. In 34 ABY, a loralora bird from Ketz was being sold at the Batuuan Bina's Creature Stall on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. By 35 ABY, Artiodac chef Strono "Cookie" Tuggs traveled to the jungle moon to acquire one of the birds, using it in his cookbook dish, Aromatic Loralora Wings.

Description[]

The terrestrial jungle moon Ketz[4] was located in the Colonies region[1] and the Interior,[2] falling in grid square K-13 on the Standard Galactic Grid.[3] It was the homeworld of the loralora bird, a rare species of avian hybrids.[4]

History[]

"…I managed to convince Bina to tell me where I could find more of 'em. Loraloras are native to Ketz, a jungle moon in the Colonies, so when I was chartin' my course, I made sure that a stop there was on the agenda."
―Strono "Cookie" Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[5]

Aromatic Loralora Wings, a dish made from Ketz loralora birds

By the time of the First Order-Resistance War, a number of loralora birds were taken to the Outer Rim planet Batuu by members of the Ketzalian species, who traded them for golden lichen.[4] In 34 ABY,[6] one loralora bird from Ketz was for sale at the Batuuan Bina's Creature Stall in the Black Spire Outpost settlement on Batuu. Volt Vescuso, a worker at the stall, attempted to make a sale by telling several bystanders about the loralora bird and its homeworld.[4] The same year,[7] the historian and author Eloc Throno included Ketz on a map in his Batuu guidebook, Traveler's Guide to Batuu.[1]

At some point, the Artiodac chef Strono "Cookie" Tuggs learned of the succulence of the loralora bird's meat and attempted to purchase one from Bina's Creature Stall on Batuu but failed to complete the transaction when the bird was set free from its cage in a street scuffle. Bina later informed Tuggs of the loralora's origins from Ketz, leading the chef to travel to the jungle moon on his travels to acquire another. After spending a decent amount of time and resources to acquire a loralora on his visit to Ketz, the Artiodac created a recipe for Aromatic Loralora Wings, considering his efforts worth it.[5] In 35 ABY,[8] Tuggs documented his trip to Ketz and included the recipe in his cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

Ketz was first mentioned in A Crash of Fate, a 2019 young-adult novel written by Zoraida Córdova.[4] The 2020 reference book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Traveler's Guide to Batuu, written by Cole Horton, erroneously labels Ketz as a planet.[1]

  6. Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of A Crash of Fate to 34 ABY.
  7. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Traveler's Guide to Batuu establishes that at the time of the book's setting the Resistance was based on Batuu. Star Wars: Timelines dates both the establishment of the Batuu Resistance base and its eventual relocation to Ajan Kloss to 34 ABY. Therefore, the in-universe guide must have been authored that year.
  8. Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
