Joth Ver was a human member of the Spice Runners of Kijimi from the planet Mimban who had a bounty on their head during the First Order occupation of the planet Batuu in 34 ABY. A visitor located Ver while the spicerunner was hiding in Black Spire Outpost on Batuu and reported the bounty's location to the Bounty Hunters' Guild.

In 35 ABY, Ver backed Zorii Bliss, leader of the Spice Runners, when she confronted former spicerunner Poe Dameron in the streets of Kijimi City on the planet Kijimi. After Bliss ordered Ver and the other members of her crew to attack, Dameron's ally Rey defeated them with her quarterstaff. Bliss then agreed to help Dameron, Rey, and their allies shortly before Kijimi was destroyed by the Final Order.

Bliss-Ver-TROS

Joth Ver was a human from[1] the planet[3] Mimban[1] who was one of the Spice Runners of Kijimi during the First Order-Resistance War.[2] During the First Order's occupation of the planet Batuu[1] in 34 ABY,[4] Ver had an 8,600-credit bounty on their head for smuggling, property damage, evading arrest, and being a spicerunner, with the posting warning that the target was armed and dangerous and so should be approached with extreme caution. A visitor to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu was assigned Ver's bounty by the Bounty Hunters' Guild, and using a thermal scanner, the visitor located the spicerunner hiding in one of the buildings in the outpost. Ver's location was then reported to the local Guildmaster's Hideout so that the visitor could collect the reward.[1]

In 35 ABY,[5] Ver was in[2] Kijimi City on the planet Kijimi[6] during its occupation by the First Order. Ver accompanied Zorii Bliss,[2] leader of the Spice Runners, and fellow members Vibbo and Vicii,[7] to track down the former spicerunner Poe Dameron after Bliss learned that he had entered the city. Bliss got the drop on Dameron, who was now a member of the Resistance, and held him and several of his Resistance allies at blaster point in one of the city's streets. Ver and the other spicerunners with Bliss slowly surrounded the Resistance members as Dameron tried to convince her to help him, but after recognizing the Jedi Rey as the target of a First Order bounty, Bliss ordered her crew to attack.[2]

Rey-Ver-TROS

Rey (center left) defeated Joth Ver (center right) and Zorii Bliss in Kijimi City.

The Jedi knocked down Bliss and the other two spicerunners with her quaterstaff before jabbing the staff into Ver's chest and knocking the last member of Bliss's crew standing back down a stairway. After Rey produced her lightsaber, Bliss agreed to help the Resistance and led Dameron and his allies off the streets without Ver and the others,[2] leaving Vibbo and Vicii unconscious. The presence of the Resistance agents caused the First Order to lock down Kijimi City and begin rounding up its inhabitants for questioning so the spicerunners soon convened to plan their various routes to flee offworld. Bliss,[7] Vicii, and at least some of the other spicerunners did successfully escape the planet[8] before the Final Order destroyed it[2] after its First Order allies had evacuated their personnel.[6]

Equipment[]

Ver wore a brown fur cloak over a red outfit with a brown bandolier, a brown belt, and a brown and red helmet. The spicerunner carried a blaster pistol in a holster and used a blaster rifle when attacking Rey.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

"The image of Zorii and two of her henchmen was the only concept where we see her and her gang together."
―Calum Alexander Watt[9]

Zorii Henchmen Mood Version 1B

Joth Ver first appeared in the 2019 sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.[2] Concept art of Ver with Bliss and another henchman was drawn by costume concept artist Calum Alexander Watt. Titled "Zorii Henchmen Mood Version 1B," it was the only piece of concept art to show Bliss together with her crew.[9] Ver was then identified in Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters, an augmented-reality video game launched at Walt Disney World[1] on July 27, 2022.[10]

The March 17, 2020[11] novelization of The Rise of Skywalker by Rae Carson erroneously describes only two spicerunners—Vibbo and Vicii—attacking Rey with Bliss despite three being clearly visible in the film.[7] The April 16, 2020[12] junior novelization of the film also only describes two mercenaries armed with pikes as assisting Bliss[13] and the 2021 graphic novel illustrated by Cryssy Cheung only depicts two other spicerunners, neither of whom match the appearances[14] of the three spicerunners seen in the film.[2]
