Jaguada was a desert planet and the only inhabited world of the Jaguada system, located in the Sith Worlds region of the Outer Rim Territories' Esstran sector. It orbited a star and had one moon. A colony world of the Sith species that was settled around 27,700 BBY, Jaguada remained a part of both the ancient Sith Empire and the old Sith Empire. By 533 BBY, it was the site of a bastion constructed by the Sith Master Darth Gravid and his apprentice, Darth Gean. Around that year, they fought a duel there that cost Gravid his life.

Jaguada was used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems for storage of war machinery during the Clone Wars. Near the end of that conflict, it hosted a garrison of Republic clone troopers, ostensibly to recover the Separatist technology that had been abandoned on the planet and its moon. In 19 BBY, the garrison was ordered to pursue the surviving Jedi Roan Shryne and his companions, who were hiding on Jaguada's moon. Following the Battle of Yavin, it was speculated that Jaguada was one of the ancient homeworlds of the Sith and that it had been explored and blockaded by the Galactic Empire.

Jaguada was the only inhabited world of the eponymous system,^[3] located in the Sith Worlds region of the Esstran sector^[1] in the Trans-Hydian portion of^[2] the Outer Rim Territories.^[1] It orbited a star that was dying^[3] by 19 BBY^[7] and was in turn circled by a single moon.^[3] It lay along the Kamat Aegit hyperlane between the planets Ashas Ree and Khar Delba, while the Kamat Krote hyperspace route linked Jaguada to the world of Dromund Kaas.^[2] The planet had an arid climate, and its surface was covered in deserts.^[3]

After an invasion by the Infinite Empire of the Rakata species^[8] and a civil war^[9] on their homeworld Korriban around 27,700 BBY,^[10] surviving members of the Sith species colonized Jaguada with Rakatan vessels, bringing the High Sith and Common Sith scripts with them and integrating the planet into the ancient Sith Empire.^[5] Around 5000 BBY, Jaguada was under the control of the old Sith Empire^[2] that was formed by the Jedi Exiles in 6900 BBY.^[11]

By 533 BBY,^[12] the Sith Master Darth Gravid and his apprentice, Darth Gean, constructed a bastion on Jaguada. Gravid came to believe that the Sith should merge their teachings with those of the Jedi, and those attempts drove him increasingly mad.^[4]

Around that year,^[12] Gravid—who had concluded that his repository of Sith holocrons and tomes needed to be destroyed so that he could rebuild the Sith Order—raised Force barriers around the Jaguada bastion and began eradicating generations worth of knowledge inside, including all traces of the transfer essence ability. Gean broke through the shields around the stronghold and confronted her master in a duel. During the fight, Gean was gravely injured after Gravid cleaved off one of her arms and shoulders as well as the left side of her face and chest. However, Gean gained the upper hand, killing Gravid despite being unarmed.^[4]

During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems stored war machinery on Jaguada. Near the end of that conflict, the Galactic Republic had established a clone trooper garrison^[6] in Jaguada's population center,^[3] ostensibly to recover the Separatist technology that had been abandoned on the planet^[6] and its moon. The garrison would later serve the Republic's successor, the Galactic Empire.^[3] In 19 BBY,^[7] the Corellian freighter Drunk Dancer arrived in a stationary orbit on the moon's far side without being detected by the local garrison. Roan Shryne, Olee Starstone, and several other Jedi Purge survivors then landed in a dropship at the moon's Separatist communications facility and used its equipment to remotely access the Jedi Temple databanks on the world of Coruscant.^[3]

Their activities were detected from the Temple beacon room by the Imperial Internal Security Bureau chief, Armand Isard, and his crew of ISB technicians, who traced the group to Jaguada's moon and relayed the information to Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader. As a large holomap displaying the Jaguada system, including the planet and its moon, emerged before Vader, he stepped into the hologram and indicated Jaguada's moon in it. Commander Appo relayed information on the location to Vader, including the fact that an Imperial garrison was present on Jaguada. Vader then had Appo order the garrison commander to pursue Shryne and his cohorts.^[3]

Following the Battle of Yavin, several shadowfeeds claimed that Jaguada, alongside the planets Begeren and Korriban, as well as the moon Khar Shian, had been explored and blockaded by the Galactic Empire. Others speculated that those worlds were possibly ancient homeworlds of the Sith.^[13] In 38 ABY, Jaguada was mentioned in the xenolinguist Doctor Milanda Vorgan's article "The Written Word: A Brief Introduction to the Writing Systems of Galactic Basic."^[5]

Inhabitants[]

Around 27,700 BBY,^[10] the Sith species settled Jaguada and brought the High Sith and Common Sith scripts there before eventually vanishing from the world.^[5] By 19 BBY,^[7] Jaguada maintained a modest population and hosted a clone trooper garrison.^[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Jaguada was introduced in the 2005 novel Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, written by James Luceno. Apart from being mentioned in the novel, the planet also appeared in a holographic representation of the entire Jaguada system.^[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the world in grid square R-5.^[2] The 2012 reference book The Essential Reader's Companion, authored by Pablo Hidalgo, misleadingly claims that Jaguada^[7]—instead of Jaguada's moon specifically^[3]—was "visited," and therefore made a full appearance, during the events of Dark Lord.^[7]
