The Ividal sector was a part of the Mid Rim. It contained the Ividal, Ongary, Tomark, and Uvadala systems. During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems captured the astronomical object Ongary IX and converted its hfredium mines into droid starfighter bases.

In response, the Galactic Republic, whose starfighter squadrons were tied up in an operation at the celestial body Uvadala, recruited the Ividal Sector Forces' Foxfire Squadron to carry out a series of bombing runs on the Ongary IX Separatist facilities. After one successful bombing run, Foxfire Squadron's starfighters were transported back to its base on the astronomical object Ividal. During the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance maintained a starfighter base on the Ividal sector world Tomark II.

Description[]

The Ividal sector was located in the Slice portion of the Mid Rim.^[1] By 0 ABY, it bordered the Sloo sector Coreward, the Hertae sector Rimward, and the Sevastol sector spinward. It also formed a four-way border with the Churba, Doldur, and Haserian sectors in the trailing direction.^[4]

The westernmost section of the Ividal sector contained the Tomark system, while the Uvadala system lay in the sector's southernmost portion and the Ividal and Ongary systems were situated in its more northeastward parts.^[5] The Ividal and Uvadala systems contained the astronomical objects Ividal and Uvadala, respectively. The Ongary system included the terrestrial celestial body Ongary IX,^[3] and the Tomark system contained the terrestrial world Tomark II.^[6]

Clone Wars[]

By the time the Clone Wars were fought between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Foxfire Squadron, a starfighter unit of the Ividal Sector Forces, was stationed at Ividal. At some point during the conflict, the Confederacy became interested in Ongary IX's natural reserves of hfredium,^[3] a metal used in starship construction.^[7] Capturing the celestial body, the Separatists took over the hfredium mines and converted them into bases for their Vulture droid starfighters.^[3]

The Republic intended to eliminate the Confederacy bases on Ongary IX but was unable to spare its starfighter squadrons, which at that time were engaged in a military operation at Uvadala. Instead, the Republic Military recruited the Ividal Sector Forces, with Foxfire Squadron subsequently carrying out several bombing runs against Confederacy targets on Ongary IX.^[3]

On the day after a successful bombing run that destroyed one of the Separatist bases, Foxfire Squadron's starfighters were loaded aboard a Republic Venator-class Star Destroyer bound to return to the sector forces' base at Ividal. Due to the experience of the Ongary IX attack, however, the pilot Jorn Kulish decided to leave the service, instead departing the celestial body as a passenger aboard the Coreward-bound^[3] Republic Group^[8] freighter Stellar Envoy.^[3]

Galactic Civil War[]

During the Galactic Civil War, Tomark II was the site of Chiron Base, a Rebel Alliance facility housing a squadron of starfighters used for hit-and-run attacks on Galactic Empire convoys. The world's galactic location made it ideal for staging such operations.^[6]

The Empire eventually came to suspect Tomark of housing an Alliance Military facility^[9] and, by 0 BBY,^[10] it and several other worlds with unconfirmed potential Rebel presence were listed as priority targets for the Imperial Death Star superweapon in an Imperial Military report entitled "IMQ-54544-XX-07 Security Clearance Black DS-1 Orbital Battle Station."^[9]

At some point during the Galactic Civil War, the Empire initiated on the^[6] Lambda sector^[11] planet Ando a secret operation known as the Ando Project. In response, Captain Amarith of Chiron Base eventually dispatched a team of the Tomark II facility's resident agents on a mission in order to investigate the Imperial operation.^[6]

Behind the scenes[]

The Ividal sector was introduced in the StarWars.com Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry.^[6] In 2012, the sector was depicted on a map designed by Modi and published in the Online Companion feature "Essential Atlas Extra: Sectors of the Mid Rim."^[4]

The Essential Atlas Online Companion placed the Tomark system, and therefore the world Tomark II, in the Ividal sector,^[2] thereby retroactively establishing the world's original appearance in "The Ando Project," a roleplaying game adventure authored by Chris Doyle for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game and published in the eleventh issue of the Star Wars Adventure Journal in November 1996, as a de facto appearance of the sector, as well.^[6]

In "The Ando Project," the player-characters travel from Ando to an Imperial facility on the^[6] Yucrales sector^[12] moon Uridia. If, after investigating the facility, the characters manage to escape it and leave the Uridia system, they return to Chiron Base on Tomark II, where they submit their mission report.^[6]
