"Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes."
―Grogu, speaking through IG-12 with glee[1]

IG-12 was a repurposed mech created by a crew of Anzellan droidsmiths from the parts of the assassin droid IG-11. After the droid sacrificed itself by self-destructing during the Clash on Nevarro,[1] some of its remains were collected, including the droid's damaged memory circuit. IG memory circuits, which were not manufactured any more by the time of the New Republic, were very hard to find at that time, and IG-11 could not be fixed.[5] However, the Anzellans restructured the droid into IG-12, a body which could be only manually operated, and reprogrammed it with "yes" and "no" responses. It was gifted by High Magistrate Greef Karga to Grogu, despite Din Djarin's reluctance, who thought Grogu was too young to operate heavy machinery. The mech was used by Grogu on the Mandalorians' mission to retake their homeworld of Mandalore.[1] During a battle between the Mandalorians and Moff Gideon's forces, IG-12 was destroyed by Gideon's Praetorian Guards. After the battle, Djarin used IG-12's remains to rebuild IG-11.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

IG-12 was voiced by Taika Waititi, who also voiced IG-11, and first appeared in "Chapter 23: The Spies", the seventh episode in the third season of the Disney+ television series The Mandalorian,[1] which was released on April 12, 2023.[6]
