- "Is that a bounty puck? Is that me?"
- ―The Mythrol to Din Djarin
Holopucks,[4] also known as holographic pucks,[5] data pucks,[2] or referred to as bounty pucks,[1] were a small, simple holographic device utilized by the Bounty Hunters' Guild that identified a quarry. Holopucks listed the details of a bounty: the amount of credits offered, the circumstances (or crimes) that warranted the bounty, the operational jurisdiction allowed for pursuit, and the specific conditions required to collect.[5]
Displaying a holographic image of the quarry accompanied by the word "WANTED" in Aurebesh and the bounty payout, a puck provided information that when combined with the use of a tracking fob, allowed Guild members to hunt their quarry to the edge of the galaxy.[4] In 9 ABY,[6] the Guild on Nevarro handed pucks out to their members. By taking the puck, the hunter accepted the bounty.[1] The Galactic Empire maintained a highly encrypted target registry that was listed on data pucks carried by Clone X troopers.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Holopucks first appeared in Chapter 1 of the 2019 Disney+ television series The Mandalorian,[1] which aired on November 12, 2019.[7] The holopuck was later identified as such in its Databank entry on StarWars.com.[4]
