Forums > Senate Hall > SH:LEGO Battle of Hoth

Currently the Notability policy states that "Toys such as action figures and LEGOs should not receive articles for individual figures or sets but should instead be documented in articles for individual toy lines." It makes sense to not have article for every single LEGO set, but there is a weird case in a gray area: The Battle of Hoth board game. There was another SH, Forum:SH:Notability of board games which discussed notability of board games, and the general consensus is that board games are notable (see Category:Real-world board games for examples, both Canon and Legends), though we currently don't really have a policy in place. Since The Battle of Hoth is both a set and a board game, I think it should deserve a page. I did bring this up on WP:Discord a while back and there was some support, so better late than never I guess.

I propose a simple addition to the notability policy underneath "Toys and toy lines," which would say:

  • "An exception is given to Star Wars: Battle of Hoth set, given that it is a LEGO board game.

(Currently a redlink since it doesn't have a page yet). Anyway curious to hear others thoughts, if people agree this game is notable for a page or recommendations to tweak the wording, before I bring this to a CT? Rsand 30 (talk) 01:07, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Discussion[]

  • While I'm at it, worth mentioning the plural form of LEGO is LEGO, not LEGOs, so that part of the notability policy should be fixed too. Rsand 30 (talk) 01:09, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
  • While Battle of Hoth DOES count as a LEGO set, it is a board game moreover and thus qualifies for its own page under Star Wars: Battle of Hoth per precedent and the linked Senate Hall. Plus it was a standalone set not technically part of the Star Wars theme as it was, but part of the LEGO Games theme. - Thannus (DFaceG) (he/him) (talk) 01:14, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Is this necessary though? I would think the non-notability of Battle of Hoth as a Lego set is overridden by its notability as a board game. DFaceG also makes a good point that it is not even part of the main Lego Star Wars theme, further distinguishing it from your average Lego set. SorcererSupreme21 (talk) 01:22, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Per Sorcerer, I don't think its necessary, but I wouldn't be opposed to adding it. If something is added though, I think it should be a more general statement instead of one that specifically calls out that set, just in case a new game is made. (Unlikely, but it can't hurt to future proof it) CometSmudge (talk) 01:27, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
    • Fair enough, though LEGO hasn't made board games in years. Maybe something like "An exception is given to LEGO board games such as Star Wars: Battle of Hoth." Rsand 30 (talk) 14:03, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Agreed with pretty much all of the above; I agree that it should get an article but ideally policy should have a more general statement on board games instead of a specific one for this particular one. Imperators II(Talk) 07:36, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
    • Yeah I figured board games as a whole is a bigger can of worms, I just wanted to be sure this one was clarified since we don't allow LEGO sets. Rsand 30 (talk) 14:03, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
  • Per above, a policy update on tabletop games would be better. Might be worth leaving a message to ThrawnChiss7 to invite him to engage with this SH and ask what is he planning as a follow-up to his SH, and also if he needs help with that. NanoLuukeCloning Facility 13:25, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
    • Yea, I do plan on proposing a addition to the notability policy about tabletop games. I don't think it will be worth it to create a specific policy regarding this game because it's wild be covered in the larger clause. ThrawnChiss7 Mitth symbol Assembly Cupola 13:30, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
