Hey there, pretty simple SH. I'm planning on adding a fourth point under the "Restoration and enhancement" subsection of our image policy. I remember a discussion surrounding AI on Wookieepedia late last year, though no clear conclusion was made; so I might as well do something about it.
The proposal goes as follows:
- Uploaders are prohibited from uploading independent AI-upscaled images; however, AI-upscaled images officially released by The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm Ltd., or its partners may be considered for uploads if the non-AI-upscaled version of the same images in good quality cannot be provided. Otherwise, non-AI-upscaled images should always take precedence.
That's it. I'm trying to get some suggestions on potential tweaks if needed. Generally, I think this suggestion should be good. At most, we allow official AI-upscaled images to be uploaded. Bonzane10 13:54, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

- At this time I see no reason to restrict official art, or to use fan art.SaintSirNicholas (talk) 14:37, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- This is not to restrict official art or even fan arts by any means. It's simply to prohibit image upscaling. Bonzane10

- I generally agree, but I don't think we need to specify "AI," since that's a bit of a buzzword and can be a bit confusing. Some image editing software don't call it AI and have provided upscaling tools before the general AI-fad in recent years. I'm actually not sure if we need to specify conditions for officially released images either; upscaled images are by definition lower quality compared to the originals, so they can be replaced without needing a specific line in the file policy. Something simple like "Images should not be upscaled for upload" would suffice. OOM 224 (he/him/they) 15:11, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- I think that's fair. The reason I use AI in specific is because the amount of AI-upscaled images I noticed that were already on Wook. Bonzane10

- Non-official, I should add. Bonzane10

- I think OOM has the right idea. Perhaps, "Images should not be upscaled by any method for upload." That is simple and covers the gambit, AI included. - JMAS

- Would "Images should not be upscaled independently by any method for upload." suffice? I'm trying give a leeway for officially upscaled material, if it ever comes to that point. Bonzane10

- I wonder if that wording makes that point clearly understandable enough. We want the wording to be simple, yet blatantly clear and concise. How about "Images upscaled by any method should not be uploaded, unless from an official source." - JMAS

- Agreed with OOM on this. Rsand 30 (talk) 22:00, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

- I had no idea that there were already AI-upscaled images present. I agree that images that users enhance themselves should be restricted. Wok142 (talk) 16:38, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
