Well, folks, we are finally here. Lets just get right into it, shall we?
Currently, our Wookieepedia:Naming policy reads the following on the subject of clone troopers:
- Use clone troopers' numbers instead of their nicknames in article titles (example: CT-7567/Legends instead of Rex/Legends). Nicknames may be used if a trooper's numerical designation is not known.
An exception shall be made for clones known to have permanently retired, defected, deserted, or otherwise departed from the service of the Republic or Imperial militaries, whose articles shall be titled by their names even if their numerical designation is known (example: Rex instead of CT-7567).
As has been discussed extensively on this thread, many users are unhappy with this policy. We already have begun moving away from this policy with the Forum:CT:Naming policy update for clone troopers. In the wake of numerous stories making it clear that clone troopers overwhelmingly value their names over their numbers, I suggest the following change to our naming policy:
- Use clone troopers' chosen names/nicknames instead of their numbers in article titles (example: Fives instead of CT-5555) in all cases unless it is noted that the clone in question prefers their number, in which case their page name shall be their number. Numbers should also be used if a trooper's name is not known.
REMINDER: This policy is not about removing the "nickname" template from affected articles. That will be a separate discussion. Clones who have been known to retire/desert will remain without the nickname template as per the prior CT on the subject.

- It was always weird to me that we used clones' "on the books" names when for any other characters we always used the name they identified with. - Thannus (DFaceG) (he/him) (talk) 19:24, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
