"Are you Et Rex, the Jedi to be judged before the Council? Did you kill this ship's crew?"
"I was to be judged, but I haven't killed anyone! I've been framed!"
―Obi-Wan Kenobi and Et Rex[1]

Et Rex was a male alien Jedi Knight who served the Jedi Order during the final decades of the Galactic Republic. In 25 BBY, Rex was framed for crimes that he did not commit by his friend and fellow Jedi Knight Alysun Celz, who had fallen to the dark side. As he was being taken back to the Jedi High Council on Coruscant to stand trial, the cruiser Radiant IX crashed on the Poison Moon asteroid in the Hoth system. Rex escaped to the asteroid's surface as Celz, now a Dark Jedi, proceeded to kill the ship's crew. When Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, investigated the crash, Rex eventually met with Kenobi as Skywalker stayed aboard the Radiant IX with Celz. Rex persuaded the Knight that Celz had fallen to the dark side and helped Kenobi incapacitate Celz, who was torturing Skywalker with Force lightning. Rex went back with Kenobi and Skywalker to the Jedi Council, with Celz as their prisoner.

Biography[]

"When she fell to the dark side, I wouldn't follow her. I never imagined it would end up like this!"
"She…? You mean…"
"Alysun. Yes…she's the killer."
―Rex and Kenobi[1]
Alysun

Alysun Celz framed Et Rex for crimes she committed after falling to the dark side.

Et Rex, a male belonging to a species of anthropomorphic avians with cranial horns, was born during the final decades of the Galactic Republic. He was trained in the ways of the Force by the Jedi Order and eventually ascended to the rank of Jedi Knight. During this time he formed a friendship with a Human female[1] Jedi[2] named Alysun Celz. In 25 BBY, Celz, who had fallen to the dark side of the Force, framed Rex for crimes that she committed. He became Celz's prisoner and was being brought to the Jedi Council on the galactic capital, Coruscant, aboard the Consular-class cruiser Radiant IX to stand trial for the Dark Jedi's crimes.[1]

However, the Radiant IX's exterior power couplings were sabotaged by a flock of mynocks, causing the vessel to crash on an asteroid known as the Poison Moon in the Hoth system's asteroid field. Rex managed to escape the vessel and head to the asteroid's surface as Celz turned against the ship's crew by killing them with Force lightning. When the Radiant IX did not arrive at the Jedi Temple, the High Council dispatched Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, to search for and detain Rex. When they discovered the wrecked cruiser in the asteroid field, the Jedi searched the body-littered ship for signs of life and soon located Celz, who deceived Kenobi and Skywalker into believing that Rex had slain the ship's crew. Rex encountered Kenobi as the former was investigating the cause of the Radiant IX's crash. The framed Jedi convinced Kenobi that he was innocent of the charges levied against him, revealing that it was Celz who had committed the crimes and murdered the crew.[1]

Rex returned to the Radiant IX with Kenobi, finding Celz—who intended to steal Kenobi's vessel—torturing Skywalker with Force lightning. Kenobi tried to intervene but was also thwarted by the Dark Jedi's attack. Rex rescued Kenobi and Skywalker by hurling a couple of mynocks he had at Celz, which distracted his former friend and caused her to stun herself until she was incapacitated. Rex helped Kenobi and Skywalker detain the woman, and he accompanied them and the imprisoned Celz back to Coruscant.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Mynock attack

Rex used two mynocks to disable Celz.

"Sweetheart! I brought you something!"
―Rex, to Celz, before throwing the second mynock that would incapacitate her[1]

Rex did not require a breath mask when he went on the surface of the Poison Moon asteroid. He wore brown Jedi robes and carried a lightsaber. When Celz fell to the dark side, Rex refused to join her, and as a result she framed him for her crimes. He maintained his innocence to Kenobi and was willing to assist in detaining Celz, although he did so without wounding her fatally.[1]

Powers and abilities[]

Rex was sensitive to the Force and eventually ascended to the rank of Jedi Knight. He was able to defeat Celz by using the mynocks that were in his hands, despite his former friend unleashing bolts of Force lightning.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Et Rex was created by Michael Carriglitto for the short story "Poison Moon," which appeared in issues 44–47 of the Dark Horse Extra, a series of monthly four-page comic anthologies. Issues 44–47 were published from February to May 2002, with the art being provided by Adrian Sibar. Rex garnered an entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia in 2008.
