Eshan was an Inner Rim world that was the homeworld of the Echani species. It was a member of the Six Sisters, a group of worlds governed by the Echani Command confederation. During the Mandalorian Wars, the Echani fought against the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders, who threatened Eshan. In 1154 BBY, the celestial body Begali launched a rebellion against the Six Sisters; however, it eventually renewed ties with Eshan.

Description[]

Eshan was a terrestrial[2] world[5] located in the Eshan system of the Inner Rim.[1]

History[]

Eshan was the homeworld of[3][4] the Echani, a sentient Near-Human offshoot species.[6] During the Mandalorian Wars[3] of 3976 BBY3960 BBY,[7] the Mandalorian Neo-Crusader faction of the Mandalorian warrior culture threatened Eshan, and in response the Echani, who had a combat-focused culture of their own, fought against the aggressors. Later, during the Jedi Civil War[3] of 3959 BBY3956 BBY,[7] Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Revan successfully disrupted the stability of the Echani worlds.[3]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity.

In 3951 BBY,[8] the Jedi Knight known as the Jedi Exile conversed with one of the Echani Handmaiden Sisters serving Jedi Master Atris. The Jedi Exile claimed that if the Handmaiden Sister had been serving Atris—who had opposed Jedi involvement in the Mandalorian Wars—during that conflict, the Jedi Master would have forbidden the Echani from fighting to defend Eshan.[3]

By 1154 BBY, Eshan was one of the Six Sisters, a group of worlds governed by the confederation known as the Echani Command. Although the celestial body Begali severed its ties with Eshan when it launched a rebellion against the Six Sisters that year, it went on to renew the relations with the Echani homeworld less than a century later—although Begali's ally,[5] the planet[6] Thyrsus, continued its own struggle for independence from the Echani Command for more than one hundred years.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

"The Echani homeworld was threatened by the Mandalorians. Yet you fought."
"We did, but not against our teachings or our Masters—we fought with them, united."
"You realize if you served Atris then, you would not have fought for your homeworld—she would have forbidden it."
―A possible conversation the Jedi Exile, the player character in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, can have with a Handmaiden Sister[3]

Eshan was introduced, albeit unnamed, in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.

The Echani homeworld was first mentioned in the 2004 Obsidian Entertainment video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. In the game, the world can be mentioned in an optional conversation the player character, the Jedi Exile, can have with one of the Handmaiden Sisters. This article assumes assumes one hundred percent game completion and that the conversation took place as described.[3] 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia later introduced the name "Eshan,"[4] and the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Eshan system in grid square N-8.[1] Jason Fry, one of the co-authors of The Essential Atlas, subsequently confirmed that Eshan was the Echani homeworld.[9]

A mention of Eshan that would have established its status as a world was originally meant to be included in the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Fry and Paul R. Urquhart; however, the section that would have mentioned Eshan was cut before the book's release. The information regarding the world was later released in 2013 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and[5] Del Rey editor[10] Erich Schoeneweiss containing various cut content from the book.[5]
