Biography[]

Early life and Influence on Star Wars[]

"Right, [the owls] actually called Convorees, named after Anne [Convery], but that was back on Clone Wars when I named them that."
―Dave Filoni[4]

The convorees, birds native to the moon of Wasskah, are named after Anne Convery.

Elizabeth Anne Convery was born on September 18,[1] 1974[2] in San Fernando Valley, California. As a child, she owned the home video release of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. During her teenage years she watched a rerelease in theaters with her mother, with both instances indulging her into the world of Star Wars.[3]

Years afterwards, Convery would get married to Dave Filoni,[4] the current Executive Vice President / Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm.[5] When Filoni had been working on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars season three episodes "Padawan Lost" and "Wookiee Hunt," he decided to the name the yellow-feathered birds in which appeared in the episodes, convors, based on the surname of his wife.[4] The birds would be officially given the name in the StarWars.com episode guide for "Padawan Lost."[6] During development on season four episode "A Friend in Need," Filoni decided to add a character named Bo-Katan Kryze to the script for the episode. The name "Bo-Katan" was created by Filoni as a nod to the name of Convery's cat. Filoni derived "Bo-Katan" from "boogie-cat-Anne," as Convery calls the cat "boogie."[7]

Bug and The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark[]

"I love it because I think it's a story that manages, while still being a satisfying adventure, to not glorify war. It does this mainly by following through on the arcs of wonderful, terrifying, funny, fallible, and diverse characters. From the personal to the political, The Clone Wars redefines the ways, big and small, that we can be heroes."
―E. Anne Convery[8]

On April 16, 2020, StarWars.com announced Convery's involvement in The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark,[9] an anthology book consisting of eleven short stories based on the era of the Clone Wars. Convery wrote the eleventh and final story, "Bug," the only original story with the rest being retellings of popular Star Wars: The Clone Wars stories.[8] The story focuses on a young Sídi girl known only as Bug and a Dathomirian witch of no clan named Falta in the aftermath of the Battle of Dathomir, a genocide of the Nightsisters as carried out by the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[10] Convery compares her short story to "Cinderella,"[11] a folk tale of European origin.[12] Just like Cinderella, Bug lives with her two mean parents Rank and Leera and becomes friends with creatures as a coping mechanism. Convery stated that Bug inspired her because she was making the best of her awful situation.[11] The book was released on August 25, 2020.[13]
