"Kill anyone they would. Kill the water. Kill the squigglies. Care not a snod who they kill, haye?"
[Freedi speaks Narkinian]
"Scob the Empire. They not be killing ye. Naye today."
―Dewi and Freedi Pamular decide not to turn in the fugitives — (audio) Listen (file info)[3]

Dewi Pamular was a Keredian male fisher who worked on the moon Narkina 5 with his brother, Freedi Pamular. While fishing at a quarry lake on the moon in around 5 BBY, the pair captured Cassian Andor and Ruescott Melshi, fugitives who had escaped from a nearby Imperial prison.

Dewi and Freedi discussed turning in the prisoners for a reward, but as the Empire was responsible for spoiling the local waters and killing off the fish that the brothers would usually catch, they decided to help Andor and Melshi escape instead, taking them to the world Niamos on board their quadjumper.

Fishing in poisoned waters[]

Dewi and Freedi Pamular captured the escaped Cassian Andor and Ruescott Melshi.

Dewi Pamular was a Keredian[2] male from[1] the moon[4] Narkina 5, where he worked as a fisher, spending much of his time[1] on fishing expeditions[5] to the moon's quarry pools with his brother, Freedi Pamular. The pair hunted for edible fish in the murky pools,[1] but Imperial prisons built on the moon spoiled the water and killed off most of the fish.[3] In 5 BBY,[6] the pair traveled to a quarry lake on the moon in a quadjumper and set up fishing nets and equipment on the edge of the water.[3]

As they tended to the nets, the brothers were watched by Cassian Andor and Ruescott Melshi, human escapees from one of the prisons, who then rushed down into the quarry and toward the quadjumper, which they hoped to steal. The Pamulars watched the prisoners run past without giving chase, and before Melshi and Andor could reach the ship, they triggered a sensor, causing sticky netting to be fired over the humans and reel them in.[3]

Escape from Narkina 5[]

Dewi: "Wise to be jumping quickly, though. Where ye be looking to run now, eh?"
Freedi: [Grunts affirmingly]
Andor: "Niamos?"
Dewi: "Oh."
Freedi: "Niamos. Haye. Niamos."
Dewi: "Oh, yeah."
―Dewi and Freedi Pamular and Cassian Andor discuss escaping Narkina 5[3]

Chuckling, the brothers approached their new captives, with Dewi musing that they could turn in the fugitives for a thousand credits each. He then complained about the Imperial prisons killing off their catch, prompting Melshi and Andor to claim that they had killed nothing and that it was the Empire who was responsible for the fishermen's woes. Freedi pointed out that the Imperials paid for the return of prisoners alive or dead, extending out a blade prosthetic, but Dewi agreed with the prisoners that the Empire was the one causing their problems.[3]

Dewi and Freedi Pamular flew the prisoners to Niamos in their quadjumper.

After the prisoners began to plead, Freedi deactivated the sensor and released the humans from the netting as Dewi proclaimed that the Empire would not kill them that day. Dewi then suggested that they leave quickly, and Andor explained that they wished to escape to[3] the world[7] Niamos.[3] The brothers agreed, and the group successfully departed from Narkina 5 and traveled to Niamos in the quadjumper,[8] where the brothers parted ways with the prisoners.[3]

Personality and traits[]

"Mysie my."
[Freedi speaks Narkinian]
"Prison, haye? Escapers. Toosie-two. A thousand each the offer be. One for each of us, Freedi."
[Freedi speaks Narkinian]"
―Dewi Pamular spoke in broken Basic — (audio) Listen (file info)[3]

Dewi was a hulking[9] Keredian with black hair and yellow skin.[3] He was the chattier of the two brothers,[1] who were not blood relatives,[2] and spoke Narkinian with Freedi but could also speak broken Basic, referring to fish as "squigglies."[3] He had compassion[1] for those like Andor and Melshi[3] who had been scarred by the Empire, as he had no love for the Imperials who had poisoned his home which hurt him and his brother's livelihood by killing the fish.[1]

Equipment[]

"Better fishing on land these times, haye?"
―Dewi Pamular — (audio) Listen (file info)[3]

Dewi wore brown pants, a brown shirt, a green shawl, gray boots, and a gray hat. The Keredian had a cybernetic eye. While fishing, Dewi used nets and other equipment and traveled in a quadjumper, which was protected by a sensor and sticky,[3] organic netting.[9]

Behind the scenes[]

Dewi Pamular was portrayed by Matt Lyons and voiced by Mike Quinn in the television show Andor, appearing in the first season's eleventh episode, "Daughter of Ferrix,"[3] which aired on November 16, 2022.[10] The character's name was not spoken in the episode but was listed in the credits.[3] Dewi's design was a reuse of the design for[2] the character Cycyed Ock[11] from the 2016 Anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.[12] The character's scene was photographed in Middle Peak Quarry in Wirksworth, Derbyshire in the United Kingdom.[13]
