"'When the righteous lose the light, evil once dead shall return.' That's so vague it could refer to anything or anyone!"
―Obi-Wan Kenobi reciting a prophecy to Qui-Gon Jinn, who wondered if it referred to Darth Wrend — (audio) Listen (file info)[1]

Darth Wrend was a legendary Sith Lord who fought against the Jedi Order and was believed dead, only to return and fight them once again. Around 67 BBY, Jedi Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn wondered whether a prophecy in the holocron of prophecy about evil returning once "the righteous [lost] the light" referred to Darth Wrend rather than a potential reincarnation of the Sith Order as believed by others who had known the prophecy.

Biography[]

As a Padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn (pictured) believed that a prophecy of the Sith might have referred to Darth Wrend.

Darth Wrend was a Sith Lord[2] who fought against the Jedi Order and was eventually thought dead. At some point afterward, the Sith nevertheless returned to wage war against the Jedi. By the time Jedi Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn began studying the holocron of prophecy[1] in 67 BBY,[3] Darth Wrend was considered legendary among the Order.[1] Around that year,[3] Jinn read an ancient prophecy stating that the Sith would disappear yet return again once "the righteous [lost] the light." The Padawan mentally considered that most notes on the prophecy had interpreted it as a potential reincarnation of the Sith Order, though Jinn wondered that it might specifically refer to Wrend and their return from believed death to fight the Order once again.[1]

In 40 BBY,[4] when Obi-Wan Kenobi was the Padawan of Jinn, Kenobi mentioned the prophecy to his Jedi Master and complained about its vagueness.[1] In 32 BBY, the Sith were revealed to still be active with the discovery of Darth Maul, who killed Jinn in a lightsaber duel during the Battle of Naboo.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

Darth Wrend was mentioned in a flashback in the 2019 novel Master & Apprentice, written by Claudia Gray.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, a character also known as Darth Wrend was created for the 2011 BioWare video game Star Wars: The Old Republic. They do not appear in the game[6] but exist within the game's files.[7]
