The DH-17 blaster rifle was a blaster rifle manufactured by BlasTech Industries that resembled BlasTech's blaster pistol of the same name and its carbine variant, albeit with an extended barrel and an added stock. The rifle had two firing modes: fully automatic and a charged-shot mode that was relatively unique for its time.[1]

It served as a standard service weapon for soldiers of the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War.[1] Prior to the formation of the Alliance, it was the weapon of choice for Rahm Kota's militia in their operations against the Galactic Empire.[3] In addition, it saw service with the Bespin Wing Guard, the security forces on Cloud City.[3] An unidentified variant or predecessor of the DH-17 blaster rifle was also used by the Royal Naboo Security Forces from the Battle of Naboo to the Imperial Period, and by the Temple Security Force during Operation: Knightfall. This variant was visually identical to the standard model, but only featured the fully automatic firing mode and fired green blaster bolts instead of red.[2][4]

Behind the scenes[]

The DH-17 blaster rifle is the primary weapon for the Rebel soldier in the Battlefront video game series. In this role, it is the Rebel Alliance's counterpart to the stormtrooper's E-11 blaster rifle, the clone trooper's DC-15A blaster rifle, and the wrist blaster and E-5 blaster rifle of the B2 super battle droid and B1 battle droid respectively. Despite this depiction as a standard-issue weapon, it never appears in the original trilogy and was original to Star Wars: Battlefront (2004). Until the release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (2008), its appearance remained exclusive to the Battlefront series.

An unknown variant that fired green blaster bolts was used by the Royal Naboo Security Forces in the Clone Wars campaign of Battlefront and the Rise of the Empire campaign in Battlefront II. The Temple vanguards during Operation: Knightfall also used this variant.

The name of the blaster is only given in the official strategy guides for Battlefront and Star Wars: Battlefront II. In the former, it is described as having a "charged-shot mode", but this feature is absent from the actual gameplay. The detail was subsequently removed in the Battlefront II game guide.
