The Cloak of the Sith was a hyperspace route that ran in the Outer Rim Territories between the astronomical object Roon and the planet Ryloth. Intersecting the Corellian Run, Triellus Trade Route, Mumble's Turnaround, and Death Wind Corridor hyperlanes, it was one of the three routes that made up the Spice Triangle trade network, which had its underworld trade controlled by the Pyke Syndicate by 10 BBY. The smuggler Tryphon Leo planned to lock down the Spice Triangle but did not survive long enough to carry out their plans.

Description[]

The Cloak of the Sith was a hyperspace route that connected the astronomical object Roon and[1] the planet[5] Ryloth in the Outer Rim Territories[1] and the Slice regions.[2] It shared its name with the Sith, an ancient order of Force-sensitive adherents of the dark side of the Force.[6]

The Ryloth system (pictured) was connected to the Cloak of the Sith.

The Cloak of the Sith intersected the Triellus Trade Route hyperlane at the Roon system, and the Corellian Run[1] super-hyperroute[7] at[1] the Gaulus sector's[3] Ryloth system.[5] The three routes together formed the Spice Triangle, a trade network that connected Roon, Ryloth, and the planet Tatooine. The Mumble's Turnaround, a hyperlane favored by smugglers, also linked with the Cloak of the Sith at both Ryloth and Roon,[1] and at Roon the route also had a junction with the Death Wind Corridor.[4]

History[]

By 10 BBY,[8] the Pyke Syndicate controlled underworld trade in the Spice Triangle, which was noted by the former pirate queen Maz Kanata in a book that was eventually named the Smuggler's Guide. After the smuggler Tryphon Leo stole the book, they planned to lock down the trade network, including the Cloak of the Sith. Leo wrote about their plans in the book and in the entry included a map of the Spice Triangle with the Cloak of the Sith marked. Leo's plans were cut short, however, when they died trying to reach one of Kanata's mapped treasure caches in order to fund their plans.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Cloak of the Sith was first introduced in the current Star Wars canon through the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, written by Daniel Wallace.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Cloak of the Sith was a cosmic dust cloud, in which the planet Roon was located. It first appeared in "Tail of the Roon Comets," the tenth episode of the animated television series Star Wars: Droids: The Adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO[9] that aired on November 7, 1985.[10]
