A circular saw or buzz saw was a cutting tool that consisted of a rotating circular piece of metal with sharp blades protruding from its circumference.[1] Many different types of droids were produced with buzz saws, including astromech droids[2] and toy droids.[3]
In 230 BBY,[4] the Nihil pirate organization used a large modified buzz saw to attack Jedi Masters Yoda and Kantam Sy during the Battle of the Corellian Shipyards.[5] During the Clone Wars, Pistoeka sabotage droids were armed with circular saws, enabling them to cut through the hulls of starships during combat.[6] In 9 BBY, L0-LA59 used her saw to cut through the ropes tying Leia Organa when she was kidnapped.[3] Similarly in 4 ABY, R2-D2 used his circular saw to free himself and his friends from an Ewok trap during their mission to Endor.[7]
