"Chiss sages conclude that the Yuuzhan Vong must have spent generations traveling between galaxies. These invaders are not likely to consider the so-called Unknown Regions a daunting prospect."
"I agree. The Chiss parliament does not, and neither do the Imperial leaders. The invasion path has swept steadily toward the Core Worlds, leading many to believe that the invaders will bypass both Chiss and Imperial territory entirely."
"This phalanx has never been ruled by the thinking of tradition-bound Chiss senators, or by Imperial politicians whose first concern is personal power. Was a change-of-policy holocube issued during my recent absence?"
―Colonel Jagged Fel and Baron Soontir Fel debate the direction of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion[2]

Twenty-eight outlying Chiss colonies were represented in the Chiss Senate.

The Chiss Senate,[3] also known as the Chiss parliament[2] or simply the Parliament,[1] was a ruling[4] legislative body of the Chiss Ascendancy.[1] Chiss senators[2]House leaders who were democratically elected by a colonial vote—represented at least twenty-eight colony worlds of the Ascendancy.[1] Every Chiss citizen, along with the four Ruling FamiliesCsapla, Nuruodo, Inrokini, and Sabosen—also had representation in the Senate.[5]

The Senate would make day-to-day decisions, while more complex issues would be deferred to the departmentalized Cabinet, which in turn would pass important matters to the Ruling Families.[6] The Chiss Senate was headquartered in the House Palace in the city of Csaplar, on the Ascendancy's capital world of Csilla.[1]

History[]

"The heart of Chiss politics lies on Csilla, and in the four ruling families. At the House Palace in Csilla's capital city of Csaplar can be found the Cabinet and Parliament. The 28 outlying Chiss colonies are represented in the Parliament by appointed governors, or House leaders."
―Sentientologist Tem Eliss, The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life[1]
Chiss Ascendancy

Chiss senators of the Ascendancy (logo pictured) disagreed with Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo's Household Phalanx on the direction of Yuuzhan Vong invasion.

In 19 ABY,[7] Commandant Gimald Nuruodo of the Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo training academy[2] located on the Unknown Regions planet[3] Rhigar[8] gave a formal nod to Empire of the Hand Commander[3] Kres'ten'tarthi, core name "Stent,"[9] that, according to Human cadet Jagged Fel, was appropriate for the Chiss Senate.[3]

By 25 ABY,[10] the Chiss Senate was described in The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life, a book published by the University of Sanbra and written by the sentientologist Tem Eliss.[1] In 27 ABY,[11] Baron Soontir Fel of the Empire of the Hand, who was stationed at the secret Cherith base on an inhospitable world, reminded his son, Colonel Jagged Fel that the Chiss Senate did not agree with him on whether the Yuuzhan Vong invasion would affect the Chiss and Imperial territories in the Unknown Regions. In disbelief, Jagged derided the Chiss senators as "tradition-bound" and Imperial politicians as concerned with "personal power" and that Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo's Household Phalanx was never aligned with their ideas.[2]
