Cerlin was a type of fabric used in the wardrobes of Naboo's monarchy. As queen, Padmé Amidala wore a traveling gown with purple cerlin sleeves that had a soft sheen to them.[1] Apailana, another queen of the Naboo, wore an intricately patterned capelet made of metallic silver cerlin when she attended the funeral of Senator Padmé Amidala.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

The material called "cerlin" in-universe has different names in the real world. Trisha Biggar, the costume designer for the prequel trilogy, explained in Dressing a Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars that the sleeves for the dark purple traveling dress were made of a double layer of shot-silk chiffon satin.[3] In the traveling exhibit Rebel, Jedi, Princess, Queen: Star Wars and the Power of Costume, which ran from 2015 to 2018,[4] the placard for Apailana's costume indicated that her cloak was made of silk with a pattern burned out using a devoré technique.[5]
