Bears were a type of creature that lived in the galaxy. Upon seeing Lieutenant Wulfgar Kath of the First Order, Resistance spy Vi Moradi noted he was built like a bear.[2]
A species of bear was the garu-bear, a type of hibernating bear.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
The memorable voice of Chewbacca was designed by Ben Burtt, sound designer for all nine films. Creating Chewbacca's voice was Burtt's first job for A New Hope. He mixed together various animal growls for different emotions, including those of bears.[4] The most heavily used sound came from a cinnamon bear[5] named Pooh.[4] Burtt also used a black bear named Tarik,[5] who died of congestive heart failure, liver disease, and cancer in October, 1994 at the age of 16.[6]
In LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mi'no Teest indirectly mentioned Ewoks as "teddy bears."[7]
